QUETION MARKS IN THE TRENCHES...
TO BE SUCCESSFUL; STARTS IN THE TRENCHES. BY FAR, WE HAVE ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSIVE LINES IN THE LEAGUE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE SAINTS WORKOUTS AND IS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE NEW DE END FROM PURDUE. OF COURSE, CHARLES GRANT AND WILL SMITH WILL DO THEIR THING. YOUNG IS A SOLID WORK HORSE ON THE INSIDE. WHO IS THE OTHER TACKLE? LESLIE...? WHITEHEAD IS SOLID, BUT WE NEED A YOUNG NORMAN HAND OR SOMTHING OF THAT SORT..U THINK?
THE OLINE IS WHAT I AM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT. HOPEFULLY WITH HE ADDITION OF BUSH, IT WILLL SPREAD DEFENSES OUT AND ALOW MORE ROOM TO RUN. THE CENTER WE GOT IN THE OFFSEASON....HE IS SMALL, VERY SMALL. WHO IS THAT GUY? CAN HE PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS? BROWN WILL SHOW OUT OF COURSE. MAYBERRY WAS RUNNING ON THE SECOND TEAM IN PRACTICE. I KNOW IT IS JUST PRACTICE, BUT WHY IS NESBIT STARTING OVER HIM. NOT A BIG FAN OF HIM. WHAT ARE YALL'S TAKE ON THE OL? I AM OUT.. rotation that is all it is at this point. you got to get the unit to gel and that takes time. I like the fact that payton is mixing the unit up and getting the reps in. during the season when a player gets on the field due to injuries at least he has already gotten some reps in and will not feel lost. besides payton needs to learn what each players strengths are. Haz evaluations are history.
As for the OL I think we are heading to a true zone blocking scheme in the middle. Haz mixed power and zone blockers and it did not work. Same thing goes for the DL. Payton is playing with the line up to see what he has. Just like with the LB. relax worry with one week left to go before the the last preseason game. that will be when the line up will fall into place. I think payton will freely sub on both sides of the ball to keep players fresh. That is what team depth is all about. WINS. |

It would be extremely unfair to make Brees into a scrambler because of the Oline. I only hope coach P's scheme suits the players we have up front.

By, far we have one of the best defensive lines in the league?
Slow down there, that's a BIG stretch. Though Smith is on his way up, he isn't exactly one fo the premier DE's in the league yet. Grant is coming off a subpar year and besides Thomas who is up there in age, we're weak right up the middle. I can easily name 7 teams that has a better DL than us. Everyone in our division has a better DL than us and that's just 3. The offensive line is definately a concern. Two tackles that are starting at a new position this year is worrisome. Mayberry is going to start... I just think Payton is giving everyone a chance to show what they can do. He's just making our "star" players work for it as he's doing with Stallworth also. Mayberry did suck last year though so it wouldn't hurt to give Nesbit a chance to see if he could outperform him. I mean it couldn't get any worse than it did last year I don't think. |
