Bush to arrive at 3:15 today
Monday, 1:45 p.m.

JACKSON, MISS. - The plan hasn’t deviated – rookie running back Reggie Bush should arrive at 3:15 p.m. today, but he is unlikely to participate in the Saints’ afternoon practice, which begins at 4:20.

“We’ll see where he’s at, but there are things he’ll have to take care of, Saints coach Sean Payton said.

Bush should participate in conditioning drills Tuesday morning and see action in his first practice that afternoon.

The “other running back, former Pro Bowler Deuce McAllister, is practicing at about 85 percent to 90 percent following knee surgery last season, Payton said.

“The next 10-15 percent is going to be tough, Payton said.

Adrian McPherson, the former Florida State quarterback in his second NFL season, is catching eyes – as a return man.

“I’ve never done it, but I can catch, said McPherson, who is also vying for a roster spot as quarterback. “It might not look good, but I can catch the ball.

“I’m just having fun competing. Punt returning, kick returning, kickoff coverage. Whatever they want me to do.

A certain New Orleans television stalwart suggested the nickname “Slash Slash, playing off former Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback/receiver Kordell Stewart. We, however, prefer “The Seminole Semicolon.

Shortly after practice, while the players walked from the locker room across campus to the cafeteria, it began to rain heavily. But punter Mitch Berger didn’t mind the rain, knowing he had his trusty scooter to get him to the cafeteria faster. That was, until he spotted receiver Joe Horn riding off on the scooter, prompting Berger to scream, “Get off my scooter.
