Weak conference, and weak conference. There are SEVEN weak teams in your conference. Seven wins right there. Then Penn State on top of that, cream puffs OOC games against South Florida, Central Michigan, and Cincinnati. Wow. No wonder they had one loss. I give OSU credit for at least scheduling a tough team in UT, BUT THEY LOST, at home. Almost only counts in horseshoes, it's still a L. Wait, didn't they lose at "the horseshoe?"

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

I have seen no stats and a big fat # 7 ranking from your top team...you have no rebuttle! 7 weak team, ok! 4 strong! which is about 3 more than the SEC has ever turned out!

jergensl 08-09-2006 12:37 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

whodi,
since you don't listen to logic...how about some on the field FACTS from the Bowl games.

9-3 Florida 31
7-5 Iowa 24
A #13 ranked (and a top 2 SEC team) barely beat a mid to upper level big 10 team. A game that came down to the final minute.

10-3 Wisconsin 24
9-3 Auburn 10

A weak Big 10 team(your words not mine) STOMPED and completely DOMINATED a top level SEC team.

11-1 Penn State 26
8-5 Florida State 23

After losing the starting RB and the leader on defense (team MVP) to injuries in the 4th quarter Penn State still wins. Florida St got lucky with a bad intentianal grounding call that gave Florida St a safety and then a freakish punt return for a TD.

As you say, loses are loses....SEC lost 2 out of 3 bowl games against the Big 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Explain that.

jergensl 08-09-2006 12:38 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

CORRECTION:

the Penn State RB and LB (team MVP) were both lost in the 1st quarter not the 4th.

wheelman 08-09-2006 12:40 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

Florida State is in the ACC.

jergensl 08-09-2006 12:43 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

opps...another correction
so the the one game the SEC almost upset the Big 10 was really an ACC team.

wheelman 08-09-2006 12:44 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

but you just showed that Florida beat Iowa.

jergensl 08-09-2006 12:49 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

yeah...a top SEC team BARELY beat a mid to top level Big 10 team. a game that came down to the final minute.

if the SEC is better than one of their top 2 teams should be able to soundly beat a # 4 or 5 Big 10 team...right?

just look when two equal record teams play...the Big 10 CRUSHES the SEC

wheelman 08-09-2006 12:56 PM

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

I thought wins were wins, and losses were losses? You can't say that, then compare scores. It defeats the very purpose of saying it.

JOESAM2002 08-09-2006 01:10 PM

You guys do realize this belongs in the college sports forum?

wheelman 08-09-2006 01:21 PM

I know, but the conversation is still fair game until a moderator moves it. How did this thread get this way in the first place? Didn't it start out with someone offering to buy drinks for anyone attending the season opener?

shackney 08-09-2006 01:34 PM

I will still buy drinks

Most likely kool aid, since the others supporting their confrence are under aged! I realize that this belongs on the college board and will stop posting. We are all saints fans...mostly because the posters are from the south.....I'm cool with that, but the closest team to me is detroit, cleveland and cincinnati! Saints are the best uniforms and no one accuses me of being a bandwagoner, so i love the black and gold! I will let the buckeyes continue to speak on the field..If you SEC'ers can go undefeated, you'll get a chance to find out in the national title game! If not, I guess you will always try to make your case based on no heisman's, outright titles, bowl wins or draft picks..It's cool though, you support your confrence through thick and (mostly) thin! I respect your OPINION, I just prefer to look at the facts, stats, history and titles.. Have a good day!

Um, Florida is not a TOP 2 SEC team. LSU and Georgia were the TOP 2 SEC teams. Try again. Flroida is a GOOD SEC team, but definitely not top 2. Prob want to check your facts before you put them out there. Wheelman already corrected you on the bad Florida State info. Too funny. So what it comes down to is, SEC and Big 10 being 1-1 head to head in bowl games. That proves absolutely nothing. Good stats.

xan 08-09-2006 01:36 PM

My bad. I should be called early for piling on and this got out of hand. My apologies to the board and to the OSU myopians.

If only we had 7 cream puffs in the SEC. *sigh* At any rate, week 2, your hopes of an undefeated season are drowned away, then we can hear about "barely losing" again, and what happened 2 decades ago. Can't wait.

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

Shackney, you are a joke. The Big Ten had 2 good teams last year (Penn State & Ohio State). To say that the SEC is weak, you would have to be a moron. Here's a list of current HOF'ers from the SEC: Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Ozzie Newsome, Lance Alworth, Dan Hampton, Jack Youngblood, Fran Tarkenton, George Blanda, Jim Taylor, Y.A. Tittle, Steve Van Buren, Reggie White, etc.... That's not counting all the future HOF'ers like Emmitt Smith, Peyton Manning, Herschel Walker, etc.... A truly weak conference indeed. The SEC has a minimum of 5 contenders every year. The Big Ten has 2-3 in there best years. If Ohio State or Penn State had to play in the SEC, they would be lucky to walk away with 3 losses. By the way, the SEC boasts 4 NCAA national champs in football in the last 15 years. Not bad for such a weak conference.

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

Ghandi,
See the picture of Bob Marley next to your post? You're smoking to much of that. Top five teams..2 Big Ten! No SEC last year! There are 7 weak teams and 4 strong teams! I like those four powerhouses. Joe Pa is the 2nd winningest coach of all times. Tressel has 5 rings..If you count LSU's 2003 season as a title, we will say that Carr is a national champ (1997). Joe Pa has a ring too! By the way, The MANIMAL image is nice...Where did he play his collegiate ball?....Oh yeah, I think it was...Was it? Son, you need a picture of Emmitt Smith or another S.E.C. player..Not the Manimal..Check out where your favorite player went to school, check out his national championship ring and then start posting pictures of Payton Manning or some SEC palyer

Ghandi,

Will Smith...Why would you post his picture? You must really think a lot of another man to put his picture on your post! I think he's a stud! I know he is a stud! I watched him play up in the Big Ten! I've seen the Ring he has...It is tight! 2002 National Champion..Will Smith!

RE: Re: RE: Opinions don

Who has won more total NCAA championships? LSU or Ohio State? Here's a hint.....it ain't a buckeye. :nono2: By the way....what is a buckeye? In Louisiana, that is what we refer to as a dried up chunk of horse sh**. :D Odd that a school would have that as there mascot. I'm getting off tangent here. The answer to our trivia is LSU with 40 NCAA championships. That puts them #6 all time amongst NCAA schools. Also....another SEC school....Arkansas is #5 on the all time list with 43 NCAA championships. Want to know where the Big Ten guys rank? Michigan is your top school with 32 NCAA championships (#8 on the list). Penn State is next with 30 NCAA championships (#10 all time). But where, oh where are the Buckeyes on the list. They didn't make the top 15. Imagine that! :awe: Now, I'm not hatin', but don't mess with the south!!!!! When it comes to athletes, the south has produced the best of the best!!!!!!

shackney 08-09-2006 03:41 PM

83 NCAA tiles between LSU and Ark...puff, puff, give

Dude, put the pipe down. You are saying that between LSU and Arkansas, they have won 83 national championships. WOW, that's staggering considering college football has been around since the late 1800's. Maybe you meant to say confrence titles? Maybe your brain is fried out on the stuff Marley is smoking in your post! If you mean confrence titles, it's because Iowa, Illiinois, Penn State, Wisconsin, Minnesote, Northwestern, Michigan and Ohio State have all won national titles. 1958 is the only LSU National Championship, which is the same as an NCAA Title! 8 teams from the Big Ten have won the National Title. Parity my man. If 8 teams from the SEC could win multiple titles, Arkansas and LSU would have some competition in that weak conference! How many times have the Tigers won the National Championship? 1 Check..Do your homework..How many have the Ohio State Buckeyes won? I'll let you answer this question...If you don't answer it, it's because you know that your second-rate team can't begin to stack up! Please, I'm asking you to answer it! By the way, Conference titles don't mean jack when you play against junk competition...The University of Toledo wins the MAC just about every year, but they don't stack up on a national level because, like LSU, they are the cream of a weak crop!...Answer the question and then go clean up your room kid!

Let me kick you some knowledge. "Big Willie" is from Utica, NY.....not Ohio. He just played ball at Ohio State. We in the great state of Louisiana have a wealth of talented athletes & don't have to recruit all over the country like some schools. :?

I don't care where he's from..To get that ring he wears he had to go to Columbus Ohio, to the greatest team in the history of college football to be anational champ. I'm not talking about high school, because LA. is off the list..Ohio, Texas, Florida, California, Penn are where High School Blue chippers are bred! We went from NFL, to Colleg..Now to High School...Don't keep digging the hole deeper...Answer the question punk....

last words from me on this post:
1-1 lets see how that record came...1 (weak) big 10 team KILLING a SEC that finished towards the top in the conference. and a SEC favorite BARELY beat a mid-level Big 10 team. Point awarded to Big 10.

next point:
how can i forget...the south still thinks it won the Civil War.

i'm out

That was exactly the point most of us have been trying to explain to you. When you play in a weak conference, such as the Big Ten, you're bound to stack up the wins. The same goes for the Big 12. Do you really think Texas would have gone undefeated if they had to play Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, & even Tennessee in back to back weeks last year?

Ok, so let's count 2003, as every historian on the planet does, and say who has a title more recently. GO!!! Ooh, that would be LSU. Sorry. I could care less what happened in the 1950s and 1960s, let's discuss the here and now. CURRENTLY, the SEC is by far the strongest conference in football. CURRENTLY, the big 10 is pretty weak, as well as several other conferences. CURRENTLY, these conferences know better than to schedule the SEC in OOC games. CURRENTLY, if ANY SEC team gets through the SEC gauntlet undefeated, they WILL be the national champion. You can bank on that. CURRENTLY, the at least 7 team powder puff Big 10 will prob have at least one team go undefeated, sadly. CURRENTLY, this new season is about to begin, and it will allbe decided on the field.

Our last title was played against a team with a 2 year unbeaten streak..it was won on the field..we were 14-0 and sent 14 players to the NFL. Your last title was played in the polls..USC would have destroyed your weak excuse for a team..CO..CO..CO..CO..National Champs..Last years standings...LSU or OSU? Don't take my word for it..Ask the Coaches poll, of ESPN or the USA Today! You don't vote, and I think I know why...You aren't qualified...Drop some stats! Read pages 3-4-5..Where did Smokey (Ghandi) go? Did he send big brother to change the subject again? Puff, Puff...(You found someone to give to....Saintwhodi)...Title...Did you know that Nicolay Valuev is the WBA Heavyweight Champion of the world, So is Rahmna (WBC) and Klitschko (IBF)...Kind of like USC and LSU...Co...OSU was 13-0 in their title game..Miami hadn't lost in 2 years...OSU was like Ali, they left no doubt who the champ was..no one could dispute it! He took care of business and earned his title in the ring. LSU is the Nicolay Valuev of College football in 2003..By the way, USC would have rang the Bell!

Thanks whodi, but let me check this chump. 1st of all, neither of us can say we have any outright NCAA titles, because before the BCS (& even after) there were several agencies that elected the "national champion". If you check on the list, we both have about the same amount of shared titles since the '30's, and as whodi pointed out ours is more recent & through a much tougher conference. So......here's your link. Do the research yourself. I'm growing tired of constantly having to put your ignorance in check. Since when did BlackOnBlack start claiming Ohio? I'm out!

The co-championship you speak of was nothing more than a demonstration by the AP against BCS procedure which BTW had it correct. If you play a tougher schedule week in and week out as the SEC does, it doesn't matter how good you think you are. Strength of schedule makes you prove it. You get beat up week after week in conference in the SEC and that should stand for something.
