anyone going to C-Land for opening game?

I'm new to the board and am from Toledo, OH. Long time Saints fan who only gets to see them on TV or when they visit Cleveland, Cincy, or Detroit. I will be in the 8th row behind the Saints bench on the 45 yard line. Anyoneone from down south going to be there? I will provide the hamburgers and beverages if anyone would like to tailgate before the game. Those damn Cleveland fans are so relentless and I prefer to have some good Saints fans around to share me food and drinks with!....

JOESAM2002 08-05-2006 05:31 AM

Wish I could be there but it's not possible. Welcome aboard.

papz 08-05-2006 08:03 AM

Hmm... I'm in Buffalo which is about 3 hours away. That's not too far of a drive for me. And since I can't make it home for the Atlanta game, I might just hit up this game.

This here's Tiger country. Don't be talking that national champ bidness unless it's LSU. NO way the Claretts win a national championship after losing NINE starters on defense. Uh-uh.

OSU would have a tough time achieving a 500 level of play in the SEC. Too tough on D. Too many thoroughbreds who are too big and too strong. Even the worst team in each division has the capability to drop the best in the Big 10. The SEC is just too too.

SEC...Are you telling me that the sec is tougher than osu? Reports across the nation debated if the hurricanes could beat the NFL teams in 2001 and 2002...they sent 11 guys to the nfl that year..the buckeyes sent 14...how did the sec combined stack up to that? Trivia...how many guys did the buckeys send last year...how many 1st rounders...Bentley...Grant....those dudes were the saints biggest studs on both sides of the ball for the saints last year...where did they have the foundation layed? osu....... They currently have 38 players in the nfl...7 heismans (eight after ginn runs away with it this year), the only guy to win 2 heisman trophies, 6 national championships....football is an ohio sport (that is why the hall of fame is in canton)! Columbus is the capital and our professional football team! It's nice that you support sec, but take their top team and play a big schedule and see what happens...I layed down some facts...give me something about a single team in the S.E.C that can stack up to thay?!..... No Joe Pa, No Bo Schembechler, No Woody Hayes, No Jim Tressel (4 1-aa titles and a 1-a title which came his second year)..Drew Breez played in the Big Ten, Eddie George played in the Big 10, Cris Carter played in the Big Ten, Charles Woodsen played in the Big Ten, Orlando Pace? He's a good player! Tom Brady played in the Big Ten! 1n 2004, the Big Ten had 44 players drafted into the NFL! How many did the S.E.C. have? 42! Nice but I think, and I'm not a math matician, but the Big Ten had more, higher drafts (Buckeyes had 14 alone..they led the nation)! Robert gallery...Iowa!...Yeah, he's good! The S.E.C. plays good defense..? Yeah, I tend to agree! No argument here...I don't think they have ever assembled a linebacking core that included A.J Hawk, Schlegel, and Carpenter! No team ever has! All at one time..They all went high in the draft! How about Chris Spielman...the Freshman who posted 29 tackles against Michigan..he was godd, don't you think? How about Antoin Winfield, or Shawn Springs, or Jack tatum for that matter! They were Buckeyes! Could they have played for Vanderblit? Robert Smith wasn't a stud, was he? Simeon Rice isn't very good?!..yeah he is (Illinois) Bob Griese was part of 17-0! Where did he play his college ball? Athlons rate s the positions in college football...Notre Dame is one in QB's...Who passed for, ran for more yards and TD's than Quin last year and had a high completion percentage? I'll give you a hint..it is the same guy that destroyed Notre Dame's entire team34-20 last year in the Fiesta Bowl! His name is Troy Smith and he owned all the college records for a Q.B. last year! Who has the highest ranked Blue Chip R.B. in the Nation?(Wells Destroyed the nations best competition in the Nation in the Army "All-Star game"? Who has an offensive line coming back this year that averages 6'7" 317 Lbs? Tressel has a 50-13 record in 5 seasons. I support the Saints from Ohio...If anyone talks trash about the AsAINTS i HAVE TO STICK UP FOR THEM...EVEEN THOUGH THEY HAVE LITTLE HISTORY TTO PUSH AROUND. i ALSO LIVE IN OHIO AND SUPPORT THE BUCKEYES...THEY REPRESENT MY STATE AND THEY DO A HECK OF A GOOD JOB! THEY HAVE MORE HISTORY AND SUCCESS THAN MOST TEAMS....MICHIGAN (BIG TEN) IS THE WINNINGEST COLLEGFE TEAM OF ALL TIME! YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE OSU, BUT #'S DON'T LIE...OSU IS UNBELIEVEABLE! NUFF SAID!

Consistent? Last title chase? Wasn't that WITH Clarett? Didn't UT go into your home and beat you? The Big 10? More like the Little 10. The ONLY reason the SEC teams don't play in national champs every year is they eventually end up beating each other. Take ANY of the top SEC teams and put them in ANY of the other conferences, and they are undefeated. SEC also has the best winning % in BCS games of ALL conferences. Please. I give respect where it's due, but this ain't the same Big 10 from back in the day any more, and the SEC is definitely still the strongest conference. We'll see.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: cleveland fans are not like you see on t

I think there are a lot of good players in the Big 10. Unfortunately, the depth and overall quality isn't so great, nor are the coaching schemes. Now Penn State's a program. Maybe you can get the buckeyes to emulate that program and you might be competitive with the middle tier SEC. They've got no real studs and they play as a team, which accounts for their superb season last year. However, in order to truly compete, you'll have to convince world class speed to attend a college that isn't particularly well known for developing that speed. The SEC farts and nationally ranked speed throw themselves on the wind to get a scholarship; only the rejects wander away from the SEC.

RockyMountainSaint 08-07-2006 08:35 PM

Bottom line,
The attrition in SEC Football is perennially greater than in any other conference. The pounding ALL the teams endure on a weekly basis cannot be matched by any other conference. The co-championship you speak of was nothing more than a demonstration by the AP against BCS procedure which BTW had it correct. If you play a tougher schedule week in and week out as the SEC does, it doesn't matter how good you think you are. Strength of schedule makes you prove it. You get beat up week after week in conference in the SEC and that should stand for something. USC was fresher and more without injury because they played POWDERPUFF PAC-10 teams all season! The PAC-10 couldn't and stil can't prove Jack-Poop in-conference. If USC wanted to play for the real title they should have scheduled a tougher non-conference road. Their only quality victory in 03 was Washington Freakin State! OU deserved to play for the title because the Big-12 was and still is tougher than the PAC-10! We have the class and lack of fear to have a Conference Championship Game. Big 10? Big 10? Beuller? Beuller? OU got served and a bunch of Sports Writers saw their "Power" slipping away so they effectively robbed LSU of what they deserved. F*** the AP! They are outdated and irrelevant.
Rant Concluded.
Sorry for the lack of paragraphs. I am still WAY worked up over this BS.

LMAO!!! Is there an asterisk on UT's 2005 W/L column that says BARELY beat OSU? No? Did they put that on the national title? No? Sorry, no points for barely. Big 10 can't sniff the SEC's jock. That's why they don't schedule the big boys over here. They know what's up.

jergensl 08-08-2006 10:04 PM

my point is that OSU was one play away from being in the title game against USC.

besides...when was the last time an SEC team won the national title...a real title...not a shared one????

yeah...that's what i thought!

so Big 10 is dodging the SEC????maybe it is the other way around.

the SEC plays 2 hand touch...big play football...the NCAA is probably the one who doesn't have the 2 conferences play that much in fear that the SEC players will get hurt when they actually have to play some physical football.

saintswhodi 08-09-2006 08:50 AM

You've just outed yourself as a homer my friend. There is no way in HELL there is a more physical conference than the SEC. Now you are just talking to be talking, and not making sense.

And why do you keep talking about a split national title? Who gives a #$%^? The crystal trophy is in Baton Rouge, you can go touch it if you like. Last time the Big 10 even got CLOSE to that? Close? Beuller? Beuller? Oh, Maurice Clarett days. The SEC had FIVE TEAMS finish in the top 15 last year. FIVE. You don't get any stronger than that. Again, the Big 10 is smart enough to know not to schedule even mid tier SEC teams, cause they'd get exposed, heinously.

shackney 08-09-2006 09:47 AM

Opinions don't count

Lay down some stats. They don't lie! 44 players to the NFL! 27 National Champions..17 Heisman Trophies...We all have our favorites and are supposed to defend our team! I'm a Saints fan..love 'em until I die, and could argue with a Patriots fan all day long who is better (that is opinion), but a Pats fan will point to the titles and players and I have to shut my trap! I am a OSU fan! Lets take last years Buckeyes..QB..Troy Smith (lead the nation in passing, completion percentage, passed for 2,282 yards, ran for 611 yards and had 27 T.D.'s) Buckeys dropped 673 yards against ND in the Fiesta Bowl, including 4 TD's over 52 yards! (that same ND squad is ranked #2 pre-season). I do Believe Santonio Holmes was drafted in the first round by the current World Champs..has speed to burn and great hands (nearly 1000 yards and 11 T.D.'s). Teddy Ginn was on the other side of Santonio...Ginn is a first team All-American who is the Nations fastest reciever and a former teammate of Troy Smith in High School. Ginn averaged 29.6 yards on 18 kick returns and had a touchdown. He is the front-runner for another "BIG TEN" Heisman in 2006! Antonio Pittman had 1,331 yards on the ground, in addition to Smiths 611 last year (this year he is back, and joined by Chris Wells, an OHIO product who was the MVP of the U.S Army All_american Bowl) Wells scored 3 TD's and was the #1 Blue Chip recruit in the nation..He signed at OSU (Reggie Bush, Chris Leak, and Teddy Ginn are former MVP's of thte U.S. Army All-American Bowl)! Our projected starting 5 offensive lineman fit the mold of those who blazed the trail (The Big Ten is where the NFL gets its O-Line)...We average 6'7", 314! (In the Mold of Corey Stringer, Orlando Pace, and LeCharles Bentley)! Our Defense..Ouch! Did you say couldn't hang with the S.E.C? I thought that was a typo! We have defensive Lineman named Quinn Pitcock who is All-American..He's back...The others will have to adjust to playing on Sundays! Those players who you don't think could play against the S.E.C will be playing aginst the N.F.L this year..Safety Donte Whitner....1st round to the Bills, A.J. Hawk...1st round to the Packers, Bobby Carpenter...1st round to the Cowboys (Are you saying that Parcells doesn't know talent at the LB position?), Anthony Schlegel to the Jets (so far that's three linebackers last year!) In the defensive backfield Whitner will be joined by Ashton Youboty at cornerback! Safety Nate Salley was drafted by the Panthers (That is a solid defense in itself..not counting the underclassmen like Malcolm jenkins, who stayed behind to run the ship! (The bucks also had the #1 Center in Mangold..Ny Jets, Santonio,OG Rob Sims to the Seahawks! I really don't know where you get your information. Maybe you don't get a chace to watch Big Ten Football? I just named One team...The Big Ten has many more andunless you can lay some stats and figures down...keep your OPINIONS to yourself!
p.s.- other Big Ten stars you've probly never heard of...LB...Paul Posluszny, Penn State..!st team All-American...Matt Spaeth, Minnesota, !st Team all-american TE, OL Levi Brown Penn Stae, 1st Team All-American, Joe Thomas, 6'8", 306 LB All American Tackle from Wisconsin, Kenny Iwebema, 6'4", 27 D-Line All-American, IOWA, Leon Hall, All-American CB, Michigan to name a few (Michigan has won more games that any team in the history of college football! Michigan has the only guy to win a Heisman on Defense...Ohio State has the Only guy to win the Heisman twice (and finish 2nd the year before)!Tressell has 5 National Championship rings (four 1-AA, one 1-a), What do you got......?

jergensl 08-09-2006 10:25 AM

RE: Opinions don

a shared title is just that...shared! all the conspiracy theories in the world wont help you.

and yes the SEC is soft....they win games, but they play soft football...just like the PAC 10...the SEC is a better conference, but they play similar styles. the Big 10 style of play is much more physical.

top to bottom the Big 10 has better teams...
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Iowa
Northwestern
Minn
Purdue
Illinois
Indiana
vs
the SEC
Georgia
Florida
LSU
Auburn
Bama
South Carolina
Tenn
Arkansas
Miss
Ole Miss
Vandy
Kentucky

Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss, and Arkansas are all WEAK teams
Indiana, Illinois, and Purdue are all WEAK teams

Power Houses?
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Iowa
vs
LSU
Georgia
Auburn
Florida

just face it the SEC is a nice conference, that puts on a great show, but when it comes to real football they are simply out classed by the Big 10

Lets not go back to Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler because everyone knows the glory days don't count....Last years top 5 will tell the story! Here is the most recent season played. Here it is, just the facts, draw your own conclusions....
1. Texas, 2. USC 3. OHIO STATE 4. PENN STATE 5. Virginia Tech

This is not my opinion! Is Texas, USC, or Virginia Tech in the S.E.C? How many Big Ten teams are there? S.E.C fans...dig out your calculator and answer me when you come up with the answer, okay!

Ohio State lost 2 games last year and both were close. Texas (National champs) by 3 and Penn State by 7 (anoth Big ten team). Both were ranked in the top 4. LSU, I guess would represent the best your conference has to offer, lost to Tennessee (who lost 7 games last year) and Georgia (who lost 3 games) by 20 points. Keep barking..The Big Ten will keep Biting!

Last I checked, 2 losses is two losses. Without TWO hurricanes almost runing your season. Without a new head coach. And all your talent went to the NFL. Whoops.

Um, again, SEC teams play in a tougher conference, with tougher IN CONFERENCE OPPONENTS. Get it? Penn State in the SEC last year would have been lucky to win 6 games with Michael Robinson at QB. But they rolled through the weak Big 10. Just like USC would not go undefeated in the SEC, nor UT. So let me spell it out again: THE SEC teams knock each other out, cause we are the strongest conference. This is the reason why so many conferences are against a playoff system in college football, cause the current system rewards mediocre or above average teams from weak conferences with undefeated records and national title games. Ask Miami, you didn't wanna see LSU after they got their act together after struggling through a horrid off the field season.

Quote:

Um, try again. Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mich State are ALL weak teams. They are lucky they get to play each other. Recap: Weak conference=boosting the records of weak teams.

Whathave you done for me lately? Any Big 10 teams CLOSE to a national title recently? No? LSU won in 2003, Auburn went undefeated and got shafted in 2004. 5 teams in the top 15 last year, who had to play each other. Wonder if that'll keep you from going undefeated. Get real.

2005 , OSU was close..loosing to the eventual national champion early by 3 points...how much closer do you want? By the way, we had our second string quarterback open up that game..Justin Zwick, who would start for the S.E.C. team of his choice! How much closer do we need to get? We were closer than your closest team! So was Penn State. OSU was 3, Penn State was 4...LSU was 3 + 4 =7th! LSU is the Pride of the SEC, and they were 7th? How is that better than the 3rd and 4th ranked team? How? Keep talking...Because athlons, and Lindy's think the S.E.C. is weak too. Just pick up a copy of a college football magazine and see where you finished last year and where you are projected this year! 2003 was a split. LSU split the title. Ali unified the title and he is recognized as the champ..won in the ring! There is a reason that no one recognizes Nicolay Valuav as the current Heavyweight champion in the world...even though he holds the WBA Belt...its not Unified, kind of like LSU's CO championship year of 2003! The last time the Big Ten won was one year befor that, and they beat the Hurricanes who hadn't lost in 2 years..OSU went 14-0 and sent 14 guys to the NFL!

Wow. That's pretty insensitive to what the team and the region went through last year as a result of two hurricanes. Do you say "poor Saints" in a sarcastic mocking manner too? Should I expect anything less from an OSU fan? At any rate, add an offensive player to the 9 players lost on defense from last year's 2 loss team:
