Optimistic post for once!
Other than the fact that our O-line is thin, our Linebackers are thin and WR seems to be a concern for a lot of Saints fans, I believe we should focus on the positives.
We have Horn back and Duece as well! Stallworth stepped up last year and has speed to burn..He will get in form before the season begins. We added Brees who has shown to be an acceptional leader...(Brooks was, and still is a scrub)! Reggie Bush looks like he did in college and will add a deminsion to our offense that we've never had before! Our Safeties are "lights out" great, and contrary to most beliefs, Our Linebackers have a vetran leader in Polley! The greatest part going into 2006 is the addition of Payton and his offensive scheme! By the way, we are playing in the Dome and have taken great strides to improve, even picking up a 4th rounder next year...It is a positive step and this year will lay the foundation for years to come. It won't happen this year, but it will happen! |

I will try to be optimistic too...only because you said it will not happen this year...I have to say that the Saints are definitely on the right track to being a contender. Yes, they are about 5 or 6 players away from having a top shelf team but they do have something to build on unlike in years past. The have a franchise QB who lacks ideal physical skills but has what it takes to get the job done and most importantly, he is a smart QB, he is a leader, and he has won in this league. They have potentially the most dynamic player in the NFL which is something this city has never even been able to smell before. There is some young talent on the offensive and defensive lines, and in the secondary. They have a bright young coach who may be very successfull in the NFL. They are returning home this year and they open the season with two "winnable" games on the road before returning home for what you should be a very special performance. If they can start off on a roll, then who knows what may happen, it may bring confidence, or they could come back to earth and lose 10 of the next 13. The only thing that worries me is that they have not done anything to address the weakest parts of the team, which just so happen to be the most valuable pieces to a winning organization...DT, OL, MLB, and CB. The main thing this new regime has done was eliminate any chances of something major happening off the field with one of our players...there are no distractions off the field or in the clubhouse and maybe just maybe, this team can compete each and every week and take that step towards being a contender in the future.

I know we didn't address the MLB, OL, and CBs like we could have, but we did gets some key players to help the team. Rome wasn't built in a day, right. It's going to take time to get all the positions filled with good players, but we are DEFINATELY headed in the right direction.

Glad to see someone is looking for the silver lining. I really think our offense will be explosive. The skills of Bush aside, returning a healthy Deuce will allow us the luxury of keeping opposing safeties honest in run support. I see us having alot of success running the draw in a spread formation and alternatively, similar results with play action out of tight formations. I really like our chances whenever we get Horn or Stallworth in single coverage and exploiting a lack of over the top safety support.

Definitely, i am so much happier with the team we have now and the direction we appear to be heading as opposed to last year. Once this team can get some young defensive talent on this roster, then there will be talk of playoff hopes, but until then, lets just look for the offense to put up points.

we're on the right track, but i'm concerned on how much money we'll have next season to sign the rest of the pieces of the puzzle that we need... our backfield is the like the GNP of Guatemala.... money will be tight to say the least for the next couple of season, unless brees is a one year solution and takes his roster bonus elsewhere and deuce is sent packing... hopefully, that doesn't happen but if not we won't be able to make any "splashes" in the free agency pool... hell, we won't even make fart bubbles....
