The year we went to the Playoffs we were 1-3 in preseason

I'm trying to be an optimist here people.

Does anyone think we can pull it together and be successful after tonight?

RockyMountainSaint 08-21-2006 10:39 PM

jdiggy,
You had better duck son.
This thread could be lit up like Lebannon(sp?).
:couch:

jdiggy 08-21-2006 10:49 PM

ROFL

Well, I remember thinking we sucked that season, and then they made history.

Blake did well for us before he went down that season, Brees has to be at least as good.

RockyMountainSaint 08-21-2006 11:01 PM

I can see what you are saying.
But the usual suspects may show up and being in a surly mood.....
Who could blame?
I dig the optimism though.
I am a
 SUNSHINER
at heart!
GO SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember a preseason where Heath Shuler tore it up.

He should've retired before the 1st regular season game.

spkb25 08-21-2006 11:13 PM

it isn't the losing it's the total sucking we did tonight

mighty12 08-21-2006 11:25 PM

It is also not the offense I am worried about.......Our defense couldn't cover a 2-A High School squad........Our DBs were 10 yards away from EVERY reciever EVERY play.

cajuntexcop 08-22-2006 03:42 AM

First team offense will be ok. Brees made some good throws and looks to be recovered. THey had some opportunities that they just failed to convert on. They will be fine.., ....but good lord in heaven........I could run through that defense....backwards...hopping on one leg. The thing about it is this. We will hopefully see some cohesiveness between these guys as the season progresses. There are some new faces in positions, and sometimes that in itself takes some time to become synchronized. I cannot believe that McKenzie is a bad player; he was there on that one reception, and the Dallas receivers made some great catches. BUT...did you see the 50 yard cushions that our DB's gave to the second and third string receivers. We need some corners that will get up in the face of these receivers and physically control them. I believe that along with linebacker will be our greatest hunt come next years draft. But until then, can we get Deon "Prime Toe" Sanders to come out of retirement???? He played for every other team, why not ours? Or heck Darrel Green; sure he is 50, but he can probably still outrun 3/4's of the receivers in the league. We can even give them a nickname..the "Colostomy Corners"........their motto, would be.."Don't bag on our age, cause we'll S*&^ you down", or something like that.... Ok, i know that was bad, but I cannot even show up at work tomorrow w/o these lousy Cowboy fans rubbing it in my face......oh the agony..... :boohoo:

Well spoken.

LKelley67 08-22-2006 08:43 AM

I can't hepp it...

The 1980 1-15 team went 3-1 in preseason

hagan714 08-22-2006 08:57 AM

all we are looking for is players that can step up that we do not expect. well the pickings were thin to say the least. all it showed is we are ready to play the middle of pack teams and we have a tough road ahead of us to play against the upper level of the NFL. I expected it. still say we end up picking in the top 10 in next year draft. There is a core there and it is good. it is the other pieces that need to develope.
LONG TERM PROJECT. I still have the faith. I am a die hard saints fan.

LKelley67 08-22-2006 09:03 AM

I ranted and ranted in '03 and '04 hagan... it wasn't anything at all about the wins and losses, it was the poor quality of play, win or lose. And then failing the same way week after week whether a win or loss. I can accept another poor win-loss if we see it coming together... see solid execution and gameplan even if the talent is lacking. Have a good organization and philosophy and the wins will come in time.

hagan714 08-22-2006 09:19 AM

agreed. have to give payton a two thumbs up also. I like going for it. good practice for when the game is on the line.

FatiusJeebs 08-22-2006 10:30 AM

Hell yeah....why the hell go for 3 in the Pre-season? I was impressed for the most pasrt but yes.....DB's and OL we need help. But lets face it....this is a rebuilding year. We have a ton of new faces...a new coach....new scheme....new....new....new.....it takes time. If we can hold together....and get some players in those positions......wwe will be contenders soon enough.

D24pick 08-22-2006 10:33 AM

As long as we step it up and work really well on the things we need work on, there's no reason we can't beat the Colts...

Their other team sucks, thy got whooped ny the other team they played last night

Euphoria 08-22-2006 10:44 AM

I said it before the draft and I'll say it again... you have to build this team and build it from the line out. getting a RB an QB will do nothing for you if you can't block and dominate up front.

cajuntexcop 08-22-2006 01:32 PM

BEAT THE COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEAT THE COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ah, what in the world are you smoking, snorting, shooting????????????? HAHAHAHAHHAHA...BEAT THE COLTS!!!!!!!!! :nono: It don't count in the preseason. What matters is regular season. If we walk out in a regular season game with the Colts and throw out there what the first string defense tossed out there last night, we will set a new NFL record for most points given up in a quarter, and it will be broken every quarter of that game until the game is over. I will say it again, we better hope our offense can out up 35 a game because the D appears to be capable of giving up a cool 34 a game for sure.

Now having said that I have seen many people put up predictions for the season. I say we will be an improved 3-13, if lucky 5-11. We have far to many holes on this team to expect much more than that. What we will have to do is be patient with tthe coaching staff, and pray that the draft and free agency pickups over the next 2 years get us back on the winning track. Until then, sit back, fasten your seat belts, and hold on tight (and remember the barf bags are in the seat pocket in front of you), because it is going to be a bumpy, Claiborne sized pothole filled ride. :nutkick:

D24pick 08-22-2006 02:06 PM

Dude, have you seen the Colts 2nd team, 3rd teams play???

They suck, as long as we work on our pass D and O-line they don't stand a chance

cajuntexcop 08-22-2006 10:07 PM

once again..it is pre season......... winning a preason game played between 2nd and third stringers will not get us to the playoffs...........

shackney 08-24-2006 01:57 PM

That year we also had Roaf, Turley, Neole on the O-line and L. Glover, N. Hand, Howard and Grant on the D-Line....That is the diffrence between the history making year and this year!

AllSaints 08-24-2006 04:32 PM

Freakin who cares if we win in preseason....... monday night they played horrible and they lost...tennesee game wasnt that great we won only because titans WRs coudlnt catch but what we are really trying too look for is how good the team plays not what the score is........

spkb25 08-24-2006 09:16 PM

if we can't keep up with dallas we are not keeping up with the colts first team. i could care less how we do against their 2nd and third teamers. why would anyone care at all about winning the game against the 2nd and third team. i care about how we look against the other teams starters. against dallas we were giving up about 15yards a play. nice.
