Anybody still predicting playoffs?

I tried to told ya this defense is atrocious. Wow. We got blown up by 7th rounders and second stringers. Did anyone breathe on Bledsoe? Ninkovich maybe? The schemes may have been vanilla, but we got our vanilla heads bashed in. The way they had Brees handcuffed with the playcalling for the first 28 minutes was difficult to watch also, especially since soon as they allowed him to throw, we moved down the field. But Dallas' vanilla offense waxed our D repeatedly. We are in trouble on that front. As I said from the beginning, 5 or 6 wins will be good for this team.

I've been saying that for 2 years now.

cajuntexcop 08-22-2006 01:34 PM

It will be an improved 3-13......... if there is such a thing....

D_it_up 08-22-2006 02:01 PM

I'm predicting 6-10 this year, and that was before watching last night's game. The team is heading in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go.

D24pick 08-22-2006 02:09 PM

I've been saying 5-11 for the longest, but if they do alot better than yesterday I say 7-9

Our run D has gotten way better, its our Pass D that wil get demolished

Brees and c.o better step up, during the draft next yr Payton better go to his defensive side 1st, not offense

saintswhodi 08-22-2006 02:45 PM

In next year's draft, we will be in position to draft Posluzny or however you spell his name from Penn State. Our MLB issues will be solved. But there's still O-line, D-line, and CB to worry about. :(

RDOX 08-22-2006 02:54 PM

It was a heckofagame, a heckofagame. The only thing missing was the antics of our boy Fumbles. All in all they looked flat or in shock. It's like they were there in body only. A few positives though, Bush can help us over the long haul. I like this kid's character and class. We need to look over the waiver wire for a left tackle and move Brown back to the right.

As far as W-L I believe that 5-11 or 6-12 would be about right. Also, look for Stallworth to be GONE in about 2 weeks.

I'm amazed that you guys can call this stuff a year away. I'm truly impressed. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge. :D

I've been saying 8-8. Though last night's game certainly was a difficult game to watch, I am not ready to give up on my prediction based simply on the performance of this pre-season game.

As an aside, I am one of those who has doubts about Brees especially considering how much we paid for him. It scares the heck out of me when I see him drilling short pattern routes in the knees (see Deuce and Karney last night). Funny how the same thing happened to our former QB the year after his shoulder surgery. Though it was obvious to me watching the play on the field, both then and now, the press didn't mention it then either.

it's not over til the hurricane waters subside.........
i'll still stick by my earlier prediction............
brees stays healthy, we're in the playoffs...........period...................smitty

Can I start arguing with you in favor of drafting Brady Quinn over Paul Posluszny now, or would you prefer to wait until February? :)

Damn, I didn't think we were gonna be Brady Quinn bad. Give us SOME credit. lol

I only hope we are in position to get Paul. Several good QBs in next year's draft. Posluszny will be the class of the LBs, and we have a FAR bigger need on D than O. So there. :P

AYYYYYMMMMEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNN; AMEN, AMEN!!!

TheDeuce 08-22-2006 04:32 PM

We were really bad last night, and yes we might not win more than 5 games, but at the same time I also don't think we should be calling for the apocalypse because of one preseason game. I'm not a retard, and I'm not ignorant; I understand that this team has a lot of problems (especially on defense). However, there are several reasons to believe that what happened last night might not necessarily be a reflection of exactly what we can expect in the regular season.

First, Deuce only got 2 carries all night and they were both right up the middle. I expect the big fella to shoulder a big workload this season and really help this team control the clock.

Second, we didn't see Reggie used to his fullest potential. He was basically used as a conventional RB. He was not lined up in the slot, was not put on the field at the same time as Deuce, etc. etc. I think that there's a lot more to expect from this young man.

Third, our playcalling seemed very cautious. The first three possessions we ran it up the middle and didn't make a pass more than one or two yards down the field. I think Payton is going to have a slightly different approach in the regular season. Like whodi said, which IMO is a reason for optimism, when we did open it up and let Drew do what he does best and get Reggie into some open spaces, the offense marched 80 yards down the field.

That being said, our defense really blows. I was pleasantly surprised at how well our 1st team rush D played, but was sorely disappointed in how bad our secondary was. They couldn't cover one-legged receivers. Defense definitely needs to be addressed in the future, and I am seriously looking forward to having the opportunity to nab Posluszny.

6-12? i guess its possible

hagan714 08-22-2006 05:06 PM

what along fall we all have had

papz 08-22-2006 05:31 PM

Geez it's still just preseason... I still say it's possible for us to win 9 games although 6 or 7 is more realistic.

leilung 08-22-2006 06:15 PM

6-12? Um... aren't there only 16 games?

Or is that the new math?

along 08-22-2006 06:24 PM

4-12...If we start building our Defense next year
we will have a chance to make the playoff by
2010.

5-11 to 7-9 is the best capable right now...After that game last night, it looked like our run D and reciveing is the only thing we dont have to work on...

Personally I don't think we will be top 5 in the draft next yr, but top 10, though...Like 10th, Paul will be gone and he doesn't play middle hes outside....Then we could go for the next highest LB, who plays middle, Rufus Alexander(My Sig)

http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArti...&Q_SEASON=2006
But I think we all know our O won't play like that in the regular season...Our pass D probaly will be a bit better, but our O-line will be better on the left side

LongTimeFan 08-22-2006 08:19 PM

I'll say it again, 7-9 and no worst than 5-11

xan 08-22-2006 10:46 PM

I stand by my 10-6 prediction. The preseason means nothing.

frankeefrank 08-22-2006 11:07 PM

I don't know why our D still stinks, I mean we've been drafting CB's and LB's high for the past 5 years now.
Oh wait, no we haven't

Did I sat Paul played middle? I said WE could plug him in at MLB. I know he is an OLB, but if we get no one else we can keep Fujita and Polley for those spots. I'd put Paul right in the middle. Urlacher played FS, WR, punt returner, OLB, and ILB at New Mexico. It's about Paul's toughness that I really like. We haven't had that in a field general MLB since Sam Mills. And Paul is the leader of Penn State's D, like Hawk was for Ohio State even though he played OLB. I believe we would have played him in the middle also.

hagan714 08-23-2006 09:05 AM

agreed whodi. right now a really good DT would go a long wayand would be cheaper too.

I couldnt agree more. No need for doom and gloom in here. Its preseason and what happened Monday should already be forgotten. And if we dont so what. AT LEAST WE HAVE A TEAM!

patdog 08-23-2006 10:36 AM

Look if, no when the offense starts clicking, 9 wins and the playoffs.

Euphoria 08-23-2006 10:50 AM

the Pre-season means a lot especially for a new coach! Evaluating players and game plans, making adjustments. Monday night we were exposed by a good QB and a solid lines. We have a lot of work to do.

Hmmm Mr Peabody please fire up the wayback machine to June 12 2006 (I say 9-7 this year). Two games into the PRESEASON and the real boobirds start to sing their song...
Please lets be real.

GoldRush26 08-23-2006 11:05 AM

Preseason means nothing? That's the same thing the Raiders fans are saying about Aaron Brooks....

Preseason isn's definitive evidence on how a team will do in the season, but it's a decent indicator. I'd be happy with 7-9. I think that would be a successful season for us.

same here! we will have a few bad games this year but i think we can pull it togeather. besides, i never give too much of a crap about one pre-season game. We won't do much better this week but it's against the colts. Just a few more late additions to the team will help out tremendously
