Build the foundation first...
Barry Sanders never won a title. When Haslett came in and won a playoff game, look at his foundation...Willie Roaf, Turley, Naole, Glover, Grant, Sammy Knight, , Mark Fields...His O-line and D-line were awesome. Without an O-line, Reggie will not ever get that ring. It will take time, but that needs to be N.O's focus this off-season..our skill players are great (we need another CB or 2) Our Linebackers can't stop the run. You build a house from the foundation up. We need to get some experienced and proven free agents O-lineman and D-tackles, draft Linebackers and put the pieces together before guys like Horn and Duece begin to decline!

3 descent CB's is a nice luxury (dime package and injuries) and I like McKenzie as a starter, but he hasn't lived up to his billing either. I think one of our strengths (only defensive strength...Ends?!) is our safeties, but you are right! We face Smith/ Keyshawn, Galloway (speed) in T.B. and Atlanta each twice/ year! The south has some recievers and we need to be able to shut them down

We're not nearly as bad versus the run as we are against the pass. People think it's closer because the Titan wide receivers can't catch the ball. The defensive backfield has been torched the last two games. We were lucky that the Titans dropped so many balls. Halfway-decent teams, like the Cowboys, will destroy us.

RE: Re: Build the foundation first...
I've heard it said that Emmitt Smith, the all-time leading rusher wouldn't have multiple superbowl rings, rushing titles, pro bowls and rushing records if it weren't for the best line ever assembled. I agree. Emmit was a stud, but it is a team game and his success is owed to the Line. We now have 2 running backs..one with many of the same skills as Emmitt and one like Barry! Imagine if we started with a great offensive line?! What could the Duece and Reggie do if they had Larry Allen, Stepnowski, Gesik, Williams, and Tuinea in front of them? FOUNDATION! It makes good backs great and great backs set records! FOUNDATION...

Coulda signed Bently, coulda kept (gasp) Gandy, coulda signed 3 or 4 FA linement and coulda drafted at least two OL or DT's, but, sadly, the safety and WR positions were priorities. jeez.

RE: Re: Build the foundation first...
How we let LeCharles get away is beyond me! Gandy is no prize, but beter than anything we have right now! Should we have traded down and tried to get 2 first round picks for Bush? Duece is awesome..But Reggie is a thouroughbred..Did we do the right thing? I hope Duece has a monster year because we have to trade him next year!..neccesity!

RE: Re: Build the foundation first...
Like I said earlier this offseason, we're going to regret letting Gandy go and moving Brown to left tackle. He wasn't consistent enough at right tackle and then we make him jump to left. Oh well... hopefully it will all work out for the best in the long run.

We do need corners, but the line isn't getting any pressure
