........and hands of stone. :? That's not good when you're a receiver.

Dude, we get it. You love Colston. Stop dissing Donte. LAst year was the first year he led our team in drops. Throw him right up there with Muhsin Muhammed, Antonio Gates, Lamont Jordan, Chad Johnson, etc. etc. etc. Colston is getting his chance now. It's all good.

I'm not dissing Stallworth simply because of my man crush on Colston. :P Stallworth was drafted in 2002, which means he had 4 years to develop into the receiver we all hoped he would be. Grant it..... he did have a bum for a QB, but Joe Horn managed Pro Bowl numbers with "Fumbles the Clown" at QB. Last year was the 1st year I saw Joe Horn drop catchable passes. One bad year during the season of Katrina, I can excuse. Stallworth, on the other hand, was consistent at that feat since his rookie season, dropping catchable ball after catchable ball. Yes....I know they were rarely in stride, but they were catchable. Donte has blazing speed. Great!!! Of all the greatest receivers in NFL history (Jerry Rice, Steve Largent, Cris Carter, Fred Bilitnekoff, etc....), how many were known as blazingly fast guys? Very, very few. But...... they all had 3 things in common: (1) They were team players with heart. (2) They ran sharp routes. & (3) They could actually catch the ball!!!! That's my point from the beginning. It doesn't matter how fast you are, what round you came out of, are what kind of freakish strength you have at the WR spot. It's about running sharp routes & catching the damn football!!!!!!

Once again, last year was the first year Donte even led our team in drops. Also, out of the 4 years, two he was injured. Maybe that slowed his development? Maybe the poor ass coaching and poor ass QB, slowed his development? And Joe Horn is not a good example, cause 1) he was a vet when he got here, and 2) anyone who has watched more than 2 Saints games knows Brooks ALWAYS locked onto Joe. Too many times I have seen receivers open if AB went through a progression, but he would throw to Joe. Come on man. Let's see how the dude does in Philly. But one year leading the team in drops, and giving other players a pass cause of Katrina and not Donte is kinda weak. He still caught 70 passes for alomst 1000 yards when teams knew he was the main receiving threat. That ain't garbage.

hey donte will be missed. but he was our best trade bait. not like he was unreplacable. Let closton play and see how it goes. next We will probly draft/FA a speed WR next year or2. A WR to shape as a replacment for when, if he works outs, closton slides over and takes over for Joe. he can not play forever. We have to see how the group works out.

I definitely agree he was our best trade bait, and I have no problem with him getting traded. But let's be fair here. It's not like he was in the best situation to develop, or to form the right attitude with the apparent # of cancers and lazy ass players we had on this team. That's all I am saying.

can't the man get an amen? It will be no surprise to see Donte surpass last years numbers. No surprise if he drops more or drops less. No surprise if he plays 16 games or comes up lame and does 8. The dude can play. Inconsistent but he ain't a bum. With the rebuild and all the good young receivers it was a simply a prudent move.

I am sure they took the best offer available. I'll take it over another Bentley-Howard walk away.

Not a good example because he was a vet? He was a practice squad player & backup in Kansas City before coming to New Orleans. I would hardly call that a vet. If he was a vet then, then Chase Lyman & Colby Bockwoldt are vets now. And might I add......his 1st chance at starting in N.O. (& since), he's put up great numbers & been consistent.

Best description of Stallworth yet. I've never claimed him to be garbage, but consistency at catching the football should be a requirement of an NFL receiver. If you want to see what a true #1 receiver does, check out the number of drops Marvin Harrison's had in the last 3 seasons. That's consistency!!!!! I'm sure Donte will have a good season in Philly (if he doesn't pull a hammy), but as many people have stated previously......this was probably the best move of our FO yet. We b**ch because we didn't get anything for someone (ala Bentley, Howard, & Smith), but then we also b**ch when we do get something for someone in a position that we actually have great depth in? :? WTF? Just be happy we didn't lose him for nothing & that we have a young stud at WR to take his place. :P

Joe Horn was a vet when we got him. 4 years in the league at that point I believe. 4 is more than zero right? Plus, Donte's and Joe's work ethic are night and day. Donte at times try to skate on ability alone, while Joe is always working to improve cause he does not have all the matural ability of some. Outside of both being Wrs, their situations couldn't have been more different. As far as Joe just being a practice squad player, he played in all 16 games for KC the two years before he came to us, and he improved in each one. Like I said, no comparison. And dude, Chase Lyman and colby? Come on man. Get real for a second. Don't pull that nonsense on me. :P

And isn't Chad Johnson a #1 receiver? Isn't Antonio Gates a #1 receiving option? Eddie Kennison? Muhsin Muhammed? Comparable # of drops to Donte. We could pick and choose all day, the fact remains Donte's drops were no worse a problem than those of other #1 receivers. AND, Donte may have had a little more reason to drop balls than these other guys. No one is saying the dude was a #1 in the making, but still, no need to slam him unnecessarily. Donte was a disappointment, to all of us. We all expected more, sooner from him. We never got it. Again I will say, let's see what he does in Philly. I think he would have done well with Brees, but then that would have your boy Colston on the bench, and you wouldn't have that now would you?

Again....I think he will do well in Philly also. A competent QB is always a plus. I just think that after 4 years of waiting, it was time. I expected big things from Stallworth the same as everyone else. The simple fact is he's a slightly above average receiver w/ amazing physical gifts, but w/ horrible professionalism & work ethic. See the T.O. experiment in Dallas & see how that's shaping up. I'm just glad we got something for him. It could have been worse with Loomis running the show.

P.S.- Colston would have beat him out of the job anyway. :moon:
