Yeah, you may have to change your avatar :)

BreesFN9 08-28-2006 03:35 PM

It's not only that but I HATE the eagles!

BreesFN9 08-28-2006 03:40 PM

Looks like a done deal, he could do nice numbers up there in Philly. Him and R Brown could cause some problems in the near future.

BreesFN9 08-28-2006 03:42 PM

Not I!!!

yasoon 08-28-2006 03:48 PM

I was hoping to get someone a bit more impactful than Simoneaux.

However, they are trying to shore up the LB position.

It never seemed like Payton was wild about Stallworth.

Eagles make deal for Stallworth

Jay Glazer / FOXSports.com
Posted: 25 minutes ago

The Philadelphia Eagles, long looking for help in the receiving corps, have finally found their man.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Eagles today swung a trade with the Saints for former first-round pick Donte Stallworth in exchange for LB Mark Simoneau and a fourth-round pick that can turn to a third rounder if the Eagles can work out an extension with the receiver.

Stallworth, a free agent after the year, has been on the trade block for quite some time and the Saints had fielded offers from several teams, including the Patriots.

In 56 career games, Stallworth had 195 recepetions for 2,791 yards and 23 TDs. In Simoneau, the Saints get a player head coach Andy Reid regards as one of his favorites of all time a perfect complement to any locker room.

JOESAM2002 08-28-2006 07:37 PM

I hate to say I told you so............but I told you so. Back when I was at training camp.

Respect my authoritiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!

wheelman 08-28-2006 07:44 PM

Maybe we can package those three 4th round picks for a cornerback...

lumm0x 08-28-2006 07:58 PM

As much as it pains me to see him leave, we got damn good value for him. Arguably he and Lelie are similar in performance value, and they are the same age and contract status. We did better for Donte than Denver did for Lelie. Simoneau and a guaranteed 4th, possibly a 3rd is pretty good actually. Simoneau can start or is very solid depth and Philly's pick will likely be better than Washington's as well.

We made out good on him.

spkb25 08-28-2006 08:05 PM

well if it turns into a number 3 and you add a lin backer at least he didn't go for nothing. we got a good deal if it turns to a 3. i think

Rsanders24 08-28-2006 08:07 PM

Yeah, I bet he is one of Reid's all-time favorites! This is a guy who was given the starting job by Reid in 2003 and lost it right back in 2004 halfway through the season because they could not stop the run! :nutkick: Damn! Why doesn't Payton see that we need a (some) CB's? The run defense has not been nearly as bad as the pass defense. Oh well, maybe next year he will sign 10 or 15 CB's like he did with Safeties and LB's. :bang2:

MatthewT 08-28-2006 08:10 PM

See ya D-Stall. It was nice knowing you. I sure hope the Saints know what they are doing. I would not be surprised if Devery Henderson is next to go...

spkb25 08-28-2006 08:12 PM

it is going to take time sanders. it just is man. we havea lot of wholes on the d side of the ball. we added another line backer and a d-tackle. we just have wholes man it is going to take time. if they work out a contract for him we get a third round pick next year. add that with simneaux (however you spell that) and how can we really complain about the trade. at least he didn't walk for nothing.

lumm0x 08-28-2006 08:12 PM

Henderson doesn't have enough value to move right now. Only way he's leaving is by being cut I think.

spkb25 08-28-2006 08:14 PM

well they want a third round pick for him and the guy is 33. i wouldn't make the trade. plus hasn't he been hurt all preseason?

GoldRush26 08-28-2006 08:16 PM

Honestly who does this come as a shock to? The writing has been on the wall for quite a while now. If you thought all of that talk about Payton not liking him and Stallworth being on the bubble was all fluff, then now you know better. I think a conditional 4th is perfect compensation and I would have accepted that by itself. Simoneau....i'm not crazy about him but he's better than some of what we have, which isn't saying much.

Stallworth's departure will open up opportunities for Colston and Hass who have shined thus far. I like the move. Hopefully this will help rid the team of that "sense of entitlement" that some players on our team might have just because of where they were drafted.

I do wish Stallworth well and hope he does well in Philly. I will be watching more Eagles highlights, but I think we made the right move in dumping himi.

Neither I.
How long do you wait for a WR to learn to catch the ball?!?!

Please stop comparing Stall's #'s with Lelie's....Obviously, we can see that Stall has improved, all Lelie has done was start off excellent then drop

This now opens the door for the others who were on their way out like C.Horn or a Lance Moore, Moore who was surely gonna be a PS guy, but now has to fight with Lymaan to earn that last spot...With Stall gone, it'll take two guys to fill in that #2 spot. Which will be Colston and DH's job sharing time at #2, Hass will own his spot at #3...To me Jones has dropped on my list. He hasn't been all that impressive like he started off anymore, if he thinks that he has a spot locked up from the beginning, then hes wrong! If he can get back to how he was performing, then we have our 5th reciver, then there's the battle between Moore, Lymaan, and C.Horn

About the trade, this could really turn out to be a smart one. Payton has come in and made some pretty impressive moves to improve this team. Mark has been a starter, a similar Fujita type player, although Stall was much younger, he brings leadership and pure skills to the table. Even though I would've prefered Jones or Trotter, this is still a very much upgrade on our D

Another thing, Why did we get a LB?!
We needed a CB, we are so weak at that position that we'll dominate at stopping the run but get passed on until our ears bleed. We can clearly see that our LBing corp was looking pretty good without Mark and his 3rd rounder, if any trade was a good one...We would've been better off getting a starting LB or a corner

He definitely won't be a starter in my opinion, over who? Fujita is a stay with Kuale backup, Middle there is Fincher, with backup Foreman. And then there's Shanle, who improves every season at WSLB until Polley returns then will be backup, with Melton and Colby, too. So the only thing I see is that he starts at middle and they release Melton, who has the least stats and upside of them all, except for the rookie Kuale who they are high on and Fincher as well. But all in all, our LBing corp will be the best underrated one there is, not DomePatrol good but by next yr or a few we can count on it

LongTimeFan 08-28-2006 08:56 PM

Not a bad move on the Saints part being Stall only had one year left of his contract and everyone knows he wasn't going to get a new contract so why not trade him right now, a number three next year plus a LB isn't bad..
Simneaux might not have started every game for the Eagles but we all know he'll start for us...
I wish Stallworth all the luck..

AllSaints 08-28-2006 09:13 PM

I have mixed feelings about this one guys yeah letting him go was good we got good value but I will miss seeing stallworth in a Saints uniform..... dang man...........

Rsanders24 08-28-2006 09:25 PM

AllSaints, i know the feeling! I'm glad we won't play the Eagles this year. I would feel much better about it if he was in the AFC.

BreesFN9 08-28-2006 11:28 PM

Still not happy!

Value wise if the Saints do get a 3rd, then it was a smart move. Obviously the writing was on the wall after the off season incident and the training camp issues. This coach means business and I sure hope in the long run that these moves pay off.

Good luck Stall!

P.S I still hate Philly!

LKelley67 08-28-2006 11:52 PM

I'm glad to see the FO taking action and doing what needs to be done. If he wasn't going to be extended then get the best deal ya can for him. We coulda had a second for Darren Howard before last season. The highest paid center in history walked away with the team getting zero compensation. The Pats were supposedly in the bidding too so I am sure they took the best deal. It is actually more than I would have guessed. Simoneau will have an impact now, not next year. C'mon and get him signed Philly before you count the bobble'n drops to make it a 3rd.

The WR situation certainly cleared up quickly

Horn---------Henderson
Colston------Jones
Hass---------C. Horn

Moore, Practice Squad

Johnson and Beerman, PUP to start the year

Why not?
The stat-padding QB is gone.
His beneficiary WR is now gone.
What's not to Love?
It may take a while but did you really want more years of "Fumbles the Clown" to
"Do You Know Who I am?!?
In Black & Gold?
As my Maw-Maw said: "Good Riddance To Bad Rubbish!"
I could be wrong......
Don't think so this time.

saintsrule 08-28-2006 11:54 PM

I am surprised, but I guess the know they have a lot of offensive talent, and you can't get everybody the ball. While on the other hand, they can use some depth on defense. I hope he does well there, but not against the Saints.

LKelley67 08-29-2006 12:00 AM

If they don't extend him in Philly he'll be on the open market next spring. I think it was a character issue similar to Smith why he was moved, so no way of resigning. But just in that light, a 4th rd pick and a LB that could very well start here for a year's rental is a fair enough deal.

AMEN BROTHER!
Many around here like to talk about how we always get nothing for the players who depart here.
I like this move.
Stopgap defender for this year.
Draft pick or trade bait for Edwards or whomever.
Renewed hope?
Priceless!
Faith my A$$.
I am enjoying seeing action.
What's the worst that could happen?
3-13?

This should be good if you continue tallying stats between these two.
It would sure keep things lively around here.
Enjoy your delusion.

This deal don't make any sense. Look at what green bay recieve for Javon (2nd rd pick). Don't tell me bout a old benchwarmer who most likely was going to be release by the end of the 53 roster. What's next trade the Superdome for the Colisuem. Where was the chart before they made this deal, a 3rd rd reserve player and a 4th rd for a #13 pick. I feel for Bress & Horn, Brees will be on his back admiring our new roof on the Dome while Horn will be press by double & triple teams. This deal have me feelin like it is December & the season is over, time to look at next year draft.

Swammi prediction: Deuce traded 08' season

:(
I believe you are correct with this prediction.

jdiggy 08-29-2006 12:47 AM

I was in the MSY Airport this afternoon and saw Donte walking through security today. I didn't know about the trade, and I said to my friend, "There goes dropsey..."

Shortly thereafter, i saw on the airport TV that he'd been traded to Philly. We had a good laugh as we had just witnessed his NOLA exit to Philly.

Good luck to Donte, but I'm glad we received a LB and a 4 for him. I guess the Donnie Edwards trade rumors are over, now it's time for some OL improvement.

Seeya Devery....

Why are you comparing Walker to Stallworth? One is a one-time Pro Bowler. The other isn't. End of comparison.
