Knight a Dolphin
Tuesday, May 13 Knight will compete for starting safety job -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By John Clayton ESPN.com http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/clayt...n/1552902.html The Dolphins continued to add all-star talent to their defense by reaching agreement with former Saints Pro Bowl safety Sammy Knight. Knight agreed to a two-year, $2.38 million contract that included a $300,000 signing bonus. Knight joins a Dolphins defense that has eight current or former Pro Bowlers. Knight, 27, has been one of the league's most opportunistic defenders over the past several years. In his six seasons with the Saints, Knight has become among the team leaders in interceptions, forced fumbles and recoveries. He'll compete against Arturo Freeman for the strong safety job and the chance to play with Pro Bowl free safety Brock Marion. The Dolphins have two Pro Bowl cornerbacks -- Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain. The Dolphins have been adding veterans to help the defense. Terrell Buckley was brought back to challenge for the third cornerback job. Jeff Zgonina was signed from the Rams to add more experience at defensive tackle. Junior Seau was acquired from the Chargers to team up with Zach Thomas at linebacker. |
