The Greatest Thing Venturi Ever Did
I moaned watching his lame and predictable schemes year after year. I do want to give him one thanks though. Christmas Eve 2005, The Lions down 12-10, 4th and 17 on their 24 yd line, 37 seconds to go. Harrington to Roy Williams for 40 yds! Without that play the game was over. We win that game and we are in the shuffle with TN, GB, NYJ, OAK, and SF and could have ended up with the 7th pick... a long ways from Reggie. Which player was burned on that play? I hope it was Jason Craft. I won't shed a tear when he leaves either, but maybe for all his failures he maybe contributed to that one bright shining moment of blunder.
Wowsa, if that game was won then another win at TB would have been less surprising. That might have kept the old regime around yet another year. I cannot imagine being here now talking about the same old faces, the same tired schemes, and the same way of losing going into this season. Thank you Tom and Mickey, whoever woke up to realize it was past time for change. Thank you Rick V., your persistence finally resulted in something good for the Saints. |
