Verily, AB is a great QB on an average team. If you don't believe me, just ask him.

Can this thread officially die? You all sound like you love chewing on a rotting corpse.

RockyMountainSaint 09-12-2006 09:10 PM

This topic will not go away this season.
If he continues to SUCK... And he will. Some will see it one way. Others will see it another.
If he has a good game it will swing to those who believe in him. Even though they are delusional. Or possibly Euphoric?
I woud lock the thread and open an entirely new forum titled:"Fumbles the Clown"

BlackandBlue 09-12-2006 09:14 PM

nope, too much work

RockyMountainSaint 09-12-2006 09:29 PM

Ok BandB,
ONCE MORE INTO THE BREACH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aaron Brooks sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*sigh*
God! This is old. :(

SoulStar 09-12-2006 11:47 PM

Did any of you watch the game last night, at one point five people made it in to the back field.
I dont miss the "The Grinning Fool", but let's not act like the man didnt have talent. Oakland and Dallas both found out yesterday the hard way....no matter how great your Wideouts are, they arent worth jack if your QB can pass you the ball....and an O-Line has alot to do with how great a QB is.

Let's face it.....the saints had alot of problems when AB was a starter. A joke of a defense that was loaded with talent, bad coaching, a head coach that seemed unwilling to right the mistakes he made, and a owner who seemed to really not care how the team performed as long as the state paid him money every year. Oh let's not forget Joe Horn sleeping with a teammates wife, anyone wonder why Willie Roaf wanted out of New Orleans all of a sudden.

So if picking on "Smiles The Clown" makes someone happy then sure go ahead, but the man was trying to make plays and help this team win. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didnt, but what can I say after all these years in the NFL and only one playoff win *A game which AB QB'ed for the team* I honestly can blame someone of you for wanting to place blame on someone.

TheGambler 09-13-2006 08:36 AM

I agree. Now granted, I didn't see the entire game.....but what little of the game I watched, it seemed like several times when Brooks was actually able to get some decent protection, he either completed a pass (although not as many as the number of sacks, I know), or he was stepping up and running for a first down.

I used to be a regular patron in some rather heated Brooks debates last year, but his departure makes it pointless these days. Besides, I've come to the conclusion that very few people are going to completely change their opinions based on what someone on a message board has to say.

saintswhodi 09-13-2006 08:44 AM

I guess i'll ask again: Since the defense for Brooks here was, "Our offensive line is terrible," do terrible offensive lines just follow Brooks? There was SEVERAL times when he DID have a chance to jog 4 yards for a first or complete a pass to Randy freaking Moss and he couldn't. He has NO pocket awareness, has none here, has none there. ALL the rushes came from the outside. Well hell dumb ass, step up into the pocket. Not Arron Brooks, spinaroonie or some such other crap. Yup, there was definitely times where Tom Brady couldn't have gotten the ball off. That's not what makes Brooks suck. It's the times when he DID have time, and could do nothing with it are the reason he sucks. AND he would have had an INT to add to his wonderful night if Marlon Mcree could catch. Face it, AB sucks, he has always sucked, and he always will. I guess if he went to all 32 teams and the offensive lines got bad for all 32, it would never be his fault. Seems to be par for the course for defenders. Surprisingly, or not so much so, immobile Kerry Collins did pretty well behind that line last year. On a team that picked top 10. 20 TDs 12 INT 3759 yards. So yeah, it's not Brooks. Right.

Finally someone who makes sense! When are people going to stop defending this moron?

TheDeuce 09-13-2006 09:58 AM

Personally, I am loving this thread. I think it's hilarious to hear people try and defend him. The guy has all the talent in the world (athletically speaking), but he's a few turds short of a sh** sandwich (which by the way are his favorite). Anyways, let's consider something. Last season Aaron Brooks was sacked 32 times, in only 13 games, an average of about two and a half times a game. In the offseason, we lost our Pro Bowl center, lost one of our tackles, and also a few other linemen. Most people would say this line actually got worse. In fact, on the Mike and Mike show on ESPN Radio, Mike Golic said the Saints would go 4-12 because there Oline just wasn't good enough. This is the unit that a lot of sportswriters have labeled the weakest unit on the team. Yet, Drew Brees was only sacked once in four preseason games, and not at all in the first game of the season. Coincidence? Maybe. But we were starting a rookie at guard, and a guy who had never started at the right tackle (and a guy who has never played LT in his life). Just as a line can make a QB look good/bad, a quarterback can also make a line look good/bad. Did Brooks have a shoddy line to work with? Yeah. Did he do much to help the situation by backpedaling into the outside rush and being indecisive? No. So what do I think is the realy answer to this thread? AB sucks at feeling the game. Brees does not. Both are playing with unheralded OLines, yet Brees doesn't get sacked and creates. Fact is, AB has never had a good feel for the game, and I don't think he ever will.
Also, Euph, you gave our OLine a "C" in the grades for the game. Interesting, so let me see here, if the OLine was that bad, how did Brees not get sacked? It must have been because he avoided the rush, stepped up in the pocket, threw the ball away, made smart decisions, etc. Funny how a QB can not get sacked even when his OLine is that bad....

Oh I'm not saying that Brooks is absolved from blame for the zero-point production of the Raiders. I do think, however, that from this point forward anything that will go wrong for the Raiders will be traced to Brooks and ONLY to Brooks by the fans here at this forum, just like it was last year.

This is just one example: If Brooks had thrown that interception in the Cleveland game in the home opener, and the outcome had been the same.........we'd have seen "yeah, Smiley almost gave the game away for us, but thank God we still won". Brees throws the interception, and very little if anything is said.

But enough with that. Now time to mention something positive that stood out to me about our new QB and our new coaching staff.

We are rolling along....kicking our FGs (thank God Carney was on his game)........we have a 9 point lead.......suddenly things get tight, and we only have a 2 point lead...

THESE WERE EXACTLY THE KINDS OF GAMES THEY WOULD LOSE LAST YEAR.....Remember St. Louis? Atlanta? It felt like we dominated those games and yet at the very end we are on the losing end of it. But no. Thanks to some stellar 4th qtr play from Brees, and of course a fortunate bounce on a pass, we were able to seal the deal. That stood out to me, and it definitely promotes optimism for Saints fans.

I believe why you answered the "why" this would happen in your own post. See the "Smiley almost......" That denotes to me a pattern of behavior someone has seen far too often. In Brooks' first couple years with us when he made those mistakes, people excused it. Then it got old. I don't think one game in a new system for a former pro bowl QB in his prime coming off major shoulder surgery is enough to call out the dogs yet huh? 2-3 years, which was the point I got tired of Brooks, is. Huge difference. Aaron brooks year one here, did no wrong, although he made plenty mistakes. Brees gets that same benefit, 6 years from now if it's the same thing, you'll see these kinda posts.

As far as the rest, I was impressed with the way the D held together after the mistakes also. I even commented as a back up to what someone else said that after Deuce's fumble, we normally would have folder. Granted, this WAS Cleveland, a team that will be a bottom feeder, but it was still good to see. We have been getting beat, or beating ourselves against bottom feeders far too often recently.

'Sup Whodi?

To wade in there. Whodi, you hit the nail on the head. In 2000, I thought that Fumbles the Clown was the hope of the franchise for the next 6-8 years. He was young, mobile, and athletic. He made things happen. Then I began to sour slightly when the next year he made his "demands" to be paid higher money. No Class. The unfortunate part of this was that Hazlett didn't pur him on the road right then and there. Since that debacle Hazlett started the long downhill slide to firing. Brooks, not Hazlett was responsible for this team's poor performance. You see a world of difference between Charles Grant, Brian Young, Will Smith, Deuce, and even Stinchcomb. McKenzie and Fred Thomas have risen a notch. All in all with Brees at the helm and Payton on the sidelines, things are vastly different. Don't kid yourself. If Payton thought that he could salvage Brooks, he'd still be in Black and Gold. But you can't unteach stupidity, laziness, and selfishness, all of the qualities that Funbles possesses. Why do people call this guy "Leon?" Because he represents what "Leon" of Budwiser fame shows. I'm glad he's gone. I'm sad he's still in the NFL because wherever he goes he takes his cancerous attitude and lackidazical work habits with him. Oakland and their fans don't deserve a "Leon." They are absolutely dumbstruck over Fumbles the Clown's performance. I really feel sorry for them. But!!! He has great "STATS!!!"

Madmarsha 09-13-2006 03:04 PM

Hey! Totally new to this forum and saw this thread and HAD to check it out. I expected just a lot of bashing but most of you all had very salient points to back up why you hate AB. Of course, there are so very many to pick from. Really agree with the last 2 posts from Whodi and TheGambler. And I'd also like to add that it's WHEN the mistakes are made. AB's not the only one to fumble and whatnot (he does have his own very special brand of backpedaling, tho, that he should patent), but it always seemed to happen at the exact wrong time to do it. Like on third and 1 in the red zone or when he's backed up deep in the other team's territory and they only have steps to go after they've intercepted. It's really hard to love a guy that has so many special ways of screwing up and then laughs and claps his hands together like a barking seal afterwards EVERY SINGLE TIME!

JOESAM2002 09-13-2006 05:15 PM

Welcome aboard Mad. Good to have you around. Diva might get tired of all us guys.

saintfan 09-13-2006 05:22 PM

A "Real" woman? Excellent.

Madmarsha 09-13-2006 05:44 PM

Yes, yes, a "real" woman with all the proper accoutrement! (Is that what you mean by "real"?) I'm a newbie here, obviously and my husband and I are season ticket virgins (we want to support the Saints specifically and the NO area in general). And what I lack in knowledge of the fundamentals and play calling I hopefully make up for in passion and enthusiam for the Saints and look forward to coming to the BNG forums to learn and to celebrate (hopefully!) with other fans!

saintswhodi 09-13-2006 05:46 PM

My ex-wife's name is Marsha. Me no like you. :P

j/k. Welcome aboard.

hagan714 09-13-2006 06:01 PM

do not worry Mad. It is the love for the Saints that counts. Thats why we are still around no matter how far we run. we keep coming back for more. It is like a infection that wont go away. it lasts for 6 months and then the pain goes away and hope returns. we are all waiting for a 1 year break from the pain.
As far as AB goes. he had mental constipation thats all. AGAIN.
At least it was in Black and Silver and not in Black and Gold.

Madmarsha 09-13-2006 06:08 PM

Hmmm, my standard response would be FU. However, I realize this would be bad form as a newbie and against the rules of posting, so I will refrain. Thanks for the welcome, ya'll!

LKelley67 09-14-2006 11:15 PM

this looked like as good of thread as any to insert this-

Robert Gallery (calf) will be out at least two-to-three weeks.

Oakland's left tackle wasn't successful in halting San Diego's pass rush in Week 1 and replacement Chad Slaughter isn't likely to fare much better versus the Ravens this Sunday. It's terrible news for all Raiders skill players and a team that was embarrassed late Monday night.
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Wow, I can't wait to see my Ravens fantasy DST go to work this week!!

I promised myself I would never start an AB thread but I sure will add to some. LOL

This comment from a fantasy site was just too classic Fumbles to not share---

Quote:

Raiders QB Andrew Walter replaced Aaron Brooks in the first quarter of today's game.
Only A.B. could lose his job without throwing a pass. He lost two straight fumbles on snaps from center and reportedly hurt his shoulder on the second one. The injury must have come diving for the ball. Brooks may not get his job back anytime soon if Walter plays well.
---Shell later said he is still the man if he is able to play. I wouldn't mind getting Walter as a project if they start Brady Quinn next year.

It was just a matter of time.

It didn't take long for the Raiders to see Brooks for what he has always been: one of the most underachieving, mistake-prone quarterbacks in recent NFL history. Before he ever threw a pass Sunday, he lost two fumbles on the Raiders' first two possessions, an opening that only echoed the dog of a performance Brooks put on last week at home against San Diego.

Make no mistake, unlike the other three aforementioned teams with struggling quarterbacks (Miami, Tampa Bay and the Giants), the Raiders had no realistic playoff hopes this season. But with Brooks pulling the trigger so far, they have looked like one of the worst teams in NFL history.

That is just hilarious. Stick a fork in AB, he is so done! ROFL!
