Packers Chose McCarthy Over Payton

good article, makes you breathe a sigh of relief... that was a close one. GB deserves as many losses as they get if they keep Thompson as the GM.

read on-

Payton said. "Our careers as coordinators have been somewhat similar, and I know he's a heck of a football coach. I know I'm where I'm supposed to be and I'm sure Mike is where he's supposed to be."

(like Haz was a heckuva coach too!)

and of note-

When McCarthy was assembling his coaching staff with the Packers, quite a few of the assistants he hired had worked with him when he was in New Orleans. Strength and conditioning coordinator Rock Gullickson, offensive quality control coach Ty Knott, linebackers coach Winston Moss and receivers coach Jimmy Robinson all coached with McCarthy in New Orleans. Quarterbacks coach Tom Clements also is a former New Orleans assistant, having coached there from 1997-99

Those 2001-2005 Saints is certainly an organization to glean quality from... not

The Packers (Passing on Payton) and the Texans (passing on Bush) will regret their choices for years to come and the Saints will love their choices.

If i remember correctly, it wasnt the Packers, Vikings, or the Raiders that passed on Payton. It was Payton who did the passing. I wonder how in world Sean Payton ended up in New Orleans, I remember reading to years ago that Raiders flew him out to Oakland in middle of the night, and for some reason he passed on the job and went back to Parcells.
