Black and Gold Country Indeed - Al Jazeera Network at Dome
I understand that the Al Jazeera network, one of the major middle eastern networks, will be at the Monday Night game in the Dome. I'm sure they are just waiting for the Saints to fail so they can show how the westerners crumble after a disaster. So that is just another reson for the Saints to rise up and show the world that the Aints are gone and that we dont give up easy around here.

Does this make anyone else uneasy?

The wife has decided to stay home on this one. I think she's thinking "insurance money". :D |
I'm sure I'll get torched for this, but here goes:
Maybe they just want to report on the state of the city. If they were, in fact, contributors to the aid efforts, then why crap on 'em for wanting to report on the game? (For the record, I can't find any information regarding their contributions, so I am not saying that it is a fact.) My point is not to always assume the worst. They are a news agency and most of us just hate them because they broadcast tapes of people we hate and take a decidedly anti American stance. I imagine most of us have never watched Al-Jazeera, but we all have strong opinions about them. Tell ya what. Let's go to their English site on Tuesday and see how they report on the game/ the city. I'm not saying I know how it will go. They may crap all over us. But, it's not like the US media hasn't abandoned this ongoing story for pics of the Cruise baby or Lohan's snatch. For anyone who cares, there is a documentary out there called "Control Room". It covers them covering the war. They are interacting alot with a good ole boy in our military and it is extremely interesting to watch them learn about us and us learn about them. The American's opinion of them changes considerably throughout the picture. The reporters that they focus on are not the foaming at the mouth anti americans that you might expect. And our guy actually develops a very good repoire with them. |
I'm witcha yasoon. It's OT and is good convo for there. There is more propaganda out there from all sides than most people know or care enough to investigate into.

Al Jazeera and the BBC are the two largest media agencies in the WORLD. There is nothing at all to be uneasy about. Katrina was a WORLD disaster, just like the Tsuanmi a couple of years ago. They have every right to cover it.

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exer...D554AB2E58.htm I would imagine there will be some kind of update next week after the big game. Should be interesting to see what they say. |
... I'd be worried if they were avoiding the Dome like the plague, or setting cameras atop One Shell Square...
|
Al Jazeera is a legitimate news agency. They cover the SuperBowl every year. I like that a game in the 'middle' of the season interests them. It's good for the region and the team.

These people envy the west and are intrigued by our culture. It is only the few extremest that hate us, mainly the rich. The rest of these people of Arab decent are just as curious about us as we are about about them. I spent a little time in Egypt and Afganastan, the masses dont hate us. Dont believe everything Fox news tells you.

Make them go through security twice , medal detectors should ease the fans minds at the Dome.

re you actually insinuating that the Katrina Recovery is more newsworthy than Linsey Lohan's snatch? I'll take Lohan's snatch over clearing debris any day. What is wrong with you?!? |

A big thing that I think you miss to read in to this is the spreading of the sport of football itself. From being a strictly american affair and then going to europe (Germany first) it has spread more and more over the world. This is just a natural development to get the sport shown on TV in the middle east.
|
If the Arab nations had the controled violence of American football, they'd probably have a channel for their misplaced hatred of the West. It might in fact instill a commonality between us if they could get high profile players in our league, just like some do for the NBA. Notice how Mainland China reacts less hostilely to our diplomacy now that Yao Ming is an icon here.
