We don't need a handout. We don't need your pity or transient concern. We certainly don't need your train wreck curiosity. And while it might seem that we're desperate, we aren't. We don't have the curse of an overblown sense of entitlement. We're sad that we have lost things, but we're grateful to be alive and excited about our future.

And furthermore, our culture isn't for sale. It doesn't flip on when you roll yourself out of your hotel bed or pause when you need to relive yourself from overindulging.

We do what we do here for each other. For OUR enjoyment and enrichment. If you are lucky enough to be able to join in the fun and share the experiences with us, you'll understand that it doesn't matter how much money you bring to the table, the only thing that truly counts is whether you show up and participate with a smile.

So, if you were watching tv last night and listening to the commentators begging people to go to New Orleans, don't come. New Orleans is a Mecca for the spirit, just a simple spot on the planet where passion, creativity and the joy of experience converge. New Orleans is not "open for business," it is here for us.

But if you must feed your soul, you are always welcome.
