Knee injury could end Ninkovich's season

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A knee injury during the New Orleans' 23-3 victory over Atlanta on Monday night may end the season for Saints rookie defensive end Rob Ninkovich.

The early diagnosis is a strained medial collateral ligament and a slightly torn anterior cruiciate ligament. If the latter proves serious enough to require reconstructive surgery, Ninkovich likely would spend the rest of the season rehabilitating.

"This is the first time I've ever been injured. I knew right away it wasn't good," Ninkovich said. "I'm hopeful to be back but right now I just have to wait and see."

Ninkovich said doctors will take a closer look at his knee later this week after swelling goes down.

"After the game I was pretty upset because I love to play football. Now I'm just going to have to take all the effort I put into paying into rehab so I'll be back 100 percent," said Ninkovich, who played for Purdue.

Taken in the fifth round of last spring's NFL draft, Ninkovich made the roster as a special teams regular, a backup long snapper and a reserve defensive end who found playing time spelling both Charles Grant and Will Smith on both sides of the line.

Ya know if we could have taken Mario Williams we would have had more depth at DE. That could have ended up handy before the season is over.

If this holds to be true and he can't come back, I look for the team to resign Bryant.

Texans | Kubiak disappointed with M. Williams' performance in Week 3
Tue, 26 Sep 2006 20:03:32 -0700

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is disappointed with the way DL Mario Williams played during the Week 3 game. Williams had three tackles in the game and raised his season total to eight tackles and zero sacks in three games. Kubiak said, "I was disappointed in the way he played. There were some communication issues that we have to get corrected with him and what we're expecting him to do in some certain situations. But he's done some things and progressed…but he did not do that this week. And I'm expecting him to bounce back this coming week and become the type of player we want him to become."

option #1
Willie Whitehead
He has done it before.

option #2 PS
Eric Moore
Scott Scharff
Moore is probly the best pick seeing that he has 8 games with the gaints.

This is a big blow. but Shawn will deal with. Michael Haynes hurt us. he was the depth we wanted.

To replace Ninkovich, the Saints elevated defensive end Eric Moore from the practice squad. He could play in Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Moore was a sixth-round choice of the New York Giants in 2005. The former Florida State standout, who has good upfield quickness, appeared in eight games for the Giants as a rookie. He was released at the end of camp and quickly signed by the Saint to their practice squad.
