this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; will we try to upgrade middle linebacker after june 1,or are we going to hope opposing offense does not exploit ruff by passing on 1st&2nd down until we can bring grant up to speed[next year?] :casstet:...

They passed on a lot of guys in FA and the draft. I\'m pretty confident at this point that Ruff is your guy... unless there is some unbelievable steal out there - but I don\'t know who that would be.

I think they will, if the right player is available. I don\'t think they will overspend. I believe they are happy with the group we have. Also remember some veterans will be cut during training camps also.
I\'m more nervous about this position than any other on the team. Hodge: Great potential, underachieved last year, should be better Huff: Reminds me of Vaughn Johnson. He\'s a syud against the run, only so-so against the pass. Allen: Big question mark. Could blossom or flop. He worries the heck out of me. Smith: Jack of all trades type, will fill in if any of the abope 3 flop or get hurt. Knight: Don\'t know squat about him. Many posters say he has good talent and great instincts. What do you guys think? Carroll: Overachiever, not the most talented, but always around the ball. I remember similar things said about Sammy a few years back. Haslett likes this kid. Grant: I think he can spot play his 1st year at MLB, OLB, SS. Great pick-up for the nickle package. This guy could develope into a stud LB, but he\'ll need a year I think. JJ Jones: I think this is the guy we scarfed off the Raven\'s practice squad. I don\'t know much about him but the coaches are pretty high on him. They think he can develope into a stud. Not making the Ravens roster as a LB isn\'t much of a knock. You gotta be a sure-nuff stud LB to make that team. Whacha Think? |
Whether we agree or disagree; its all for Him.

I have to agree with whodat, there isn\'t much out there right now. Maybe after June 1st something will come along, but for now it looks like Ruff & Smith are the MLB\'s.
I would like to see them bring in John Holecek from Atlanta for depth. Travis Carroll, Curtis Holden, J.J. Jones and Roger Knight just don\'t impress me. Great board so far, I just logged on, I finnaly had enough of NOLA\'s daycare center. |

In my personal opinion, I think the play of the linebackers will be improved this season with the revamped interior D-line. Assuming Kenny Smith is the starter, he and Sullivan will get a better rush up the middle and get in the backfield more. This will allow our linebackers and secondary to stay on their assignments. I think the LB\'s we have now will be more than adequate. I could be wrong, but this is all just my opinion.

i hope you\'re right dup2 since everything i\'ve read recently eludes to the fact that there won\'t be many june 1st cuts and of those that will none looked like anything the saints would take
