RE: BeerMan available for Sunday
From the WWL coaches show last night Coach seemed certain that Lewis would play and return kicks. He also said that Lewis wasn't near ready to play receiver, so his contributions should be kicking and coverage.
But I have a warning for Lewis. He's not going to be able to get away with running to the sidelines and stepping out of bounds like we has doing the last time he was on the field. Coach will deactivate him and release him faster than he can blink. Coach already said that the younger receivers were way ahead on Lewis in receiver reps and have been contributing on special teams. So if Michael Lewis can't kick the return game up another notch, Coach won't hesitate to pull the plug on this experiment. I really got some insight listening to Payton last night. He gets the fact that every one of the 46 activated players is a precious resource and that each and every man has a defined role and expectation for any game that he is activated for. He made is clear there really isn't enough spots "not like college where you can bring 80-90 guys." Maybe we should do what those hated Falcons have been doing. They've been crossing the kickoff guys and faking or reversing the handoff. It splits the focus of the return coverage. Imagine doing that with Bush and Lewis! WOW! SFIAH |

RE: BeerMan available for Sunday
I am definitly ready to see him returning kicks again. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but when he is back there i always get excited that he might run it all the way. I never really got the butterflies with the guys returning kicks now. M. Lewis is a breed of his own. He is special. I may be a little worried about him being on the kick off team though, and you know that Payton is not just going to let him return kicks. He has to show that he can contribute in other ways also.
The only question I have is who will the team cut to let Lewis back on the field. I don't think that we can cut a defensive player. All of them are so valuable. And I like all of our WR. Soooo.... I think that they might cut on of our FB. With our starter healthy again. I say we can cut one. |

RE: BeerMan available for Sunday
We'll see on Sunday...I want him to get back to old form and be exciting, but he is getting long in the tooth and the injury took alot longer to get back from than other players on the team (Deuce)...little to no real training camp work and fresh of the PUP list makes me nervous of a recurring injury that could possibly end his career on a sad note or cripple him...BUT I would like nothing more than to eat my words with a side of crow and extra helpings of my feet...

If he's not back to old form, we cut him. No big loss there. Remember, though, that it wasn't just Lewis who seemed to slack off during Haslett's last few years. A new coach with a new attitude could very well bring the dangerous Michael Lewis back to the potent kick returner that he once was. Once again, his back is against the wall and he has to play to impress - he's shined in this situation last time.
I wish him the best. If he doesn't make it, he was still a great Saint and provided me with many great memories. I do, however, hope he comes back stronger than ever. Reggie AND Lewis? Damn! |

After the first return to the sidelines, please cut him. It's not gonna get better.
