Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

Being in the UK I can't watch the game on tv or listen to it but I just followed it on the NFL.com and WOW! we got a wake up call.

Look at the stats:

Passing: NO = 383yds BALT = 159yds.
But we still lost.

Rushing: NO = 35yds Balt = 132yds
Not good, the ground game is so important and we just couldn't get it done today.

Balt got 3 interceptions. Questions need to be asked!!!!!!

Second quarter Balt got 21 points, what went wrong??

And last, but not least there were no stats on NFL.com for penalty yards and 3rd down conversions, but I bet they would make interesting reading.

In a nutshell we had great passing yds today, but we didn't get into the end zone, which, is obviously where it counts.

Also what happend to home field advantage. it didn't seem to bother the Ravens that they were in the Dome at all!!!!!!

Hope this was just a blip this week, there were lots of lessons to be learned.

Geaux Saints!!!!!!!

I'll still support the Saints whatever the Scores!!!!

Black and Gold forever!!!!!

RE: Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

the picks weren't all brees, but still he threw the ball, so it falls on him eventually.... however, our inability to get the running game going today was sad....reggie looked scared, i mean, really scared to run against that defense... he has to get it in his head that this ain't the pac 10 anymore.... sorry folks, but that's the facts.... we have to get more creative in stretching the field with him out of the backfield.... he hasn't been able to run the ball from the running back position all year long.... either convert him to wide out or something, but he's not going to be the franchise running back that we hoped he'd be.... we should be wearing down defenses with deuce for 3 quarters, and then plugging reggie in in the 4th quarter, but we aren't....

RE: Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

Maybe now unrealistic Saints fan will catch their head's and give this team a realistic prognastication of 10-6 or 9-7 instead of the 12-4, 13-3's I was hearing before this game. This team is an improved one, but we arent where we need to be yet.

chRxis 10-29-2006 04:51 PM

RE: Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

i really think that a lot of fans, just like the team, felt that the 1 or 2 game lead we had was good enough, but now that we're all tied up and about to get passed by the falcons, we should all wake up.... everyone here is saying it's alright we're still 5-2 or whatever, but if you look at it, we are going to be in a very precarious situation very soon.... we'll see, but i don't like the feel of it....

Just like last year when we beat the panthers and then tanked, I'm afraid we've turned back into the Saints. It just took a few more games to do it this year.

Oh my lord.

After one bad game and people are already giving up. I guess we were supposed to win all of the rest of our games this year.

Sad.

chRxis 10-29-2006 05:27 PM

RE: Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

if you notice in all my post, i never suggest that i'm giving up... we're supposed to come out and play good and win the games we are expected win.... this was one of them... one bad game leads to two bad games and so on until we are out of the play off picture... i'm saying they need to get with the program (stop the turnovers, stop the dumb penalties, etc.) quick before they lose a hold on a playoff birth.... it's not that far fetched of an idea considering the slate of games we have remaining and the tendency of teams in new orleans...

LongTimeFan 10-29-2006 05:28 PM

I'm sure glad the team doesn't give up on a season as some fans do...
Come on, give the team some credit here...

Because we've seen it all before. It's not the loss. Everyone loses a couple. It's the way we lost. Playoff teams don't get murdered at home like that.

please tell me you are not seriously comparing that patriots team, with a great coach, to this year's saints team, with a rookie coach.... please tell me you are not that much of a numbskull to even attempt that comparison..... oh wait you already did, which shows me a lot and exactly how much you don't know about football.....

it wasn't directed at anyone.... kinda like when you stub your toe and say "sh..." you know what i mean.... it wasn't directed at anyone.... it was a general expression not intended at a specific target... the latter part was meant for him, but the moron part was just me expressing my frustration with the simplistic mindset of the counter part... get it? or is that too many big words for you?

What did you say? You said that "playoff teams don't get murdered at home like that", and I just proved that you were wrong. It happens every year. No I am not comparing the Saints to anyone. That was just one example. I'm sure if I cared to dig around in enough stats I could provide several examples.

I'm just commenting on how ludicrous it is for the two of you to are jumping ship after one bad game. Seems like some people only want to back the team when they are winning games.

Nice to revert to name calling to support your argument. Anyway I know enough about football to look at the game for what it was and not instantly predict doom and gloom like a couple of people are doing on here. It was a bad game, to be sure. It was a simple case of losing the turnover battle. When you turnover the ball 5 times, you lose the game, no matter if you're the Patriots or the Oakland Raiders. When you abandon the run game early in the game, you are likely to lose. I'm not going to revert to saying that this team is instantly like the Saints of old just because we suffered a bad loss. And I'm willing to bet that anyone in the know would take my game assessment a lot more seriously than yours.

Since I'm not a patriots fan I don't know the circumstances of that game but I can assume that it was an aberation. For us, it's business as usual. For the record, I haven't "jumped ship". I've seen all this before and I was never on the ship. I knew we would have our meltdown eventually. It was great while it lasted. Don't worry. I still have my season tickets and I'll still be at most of the games. I'm just not unrealistic about it.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

for the last time, let's get it straight... i'm not "jumping ship".... i think this is the 3rd time at least that i've said it... i'm concerned... overly concerned about a second half crumble by a young, inexperienced football team.... it that so out of left field? no... i'm not predicting anything.... i'm saying that we need to get our asses in gear and win the games we're supposed to, like the one today, b/c at the end of the year, after we lose the ones were supposed to, if you start adding the losses of the games that were supposed to be wins, then we aren't going to make the playoffs.... get it? i'm not saying anything about "doom and gloom" etc.... we just need to get our heads back in the game, b/c it was pretty obvious (and the turnover margin indicates this, as you have so lovely pointed out) they weren't today.... i know if you turn the ball over you don't win.... thanks sherlock for uncovering that mystery.... but the fact is that we should not have had 5 turnovers... nor should we have had 4 false starts that killed some of our drives, but we did.... good football teams (colts, bears, etc.) beat the teams they are favored to beat.... they don't let those games slip and hope that other teams will come along and help out... they take care of their own business... we've done a decent job of that so far, but with the lead in the division standings i think the team, coaches, front office, and even the fans have become complacent and just expect to see the playoffs b/c we started so good.... we can't allow this to happen.... now do you get where i'm coming from? christsakes..... and what the hell was "anyone in the know"... could you sound anymore pretentious?

Being upset with a loss like today's is justified. As much justification as fearing the worst. We know the history of this franchise, throughout the years, and the many, MANY coaching changes, the results have been the same. You get slapped in the face enough times, and eventually when the hand goes up again, you'll flinch.

Now, despite the high tensions, keep the bite out of your posts.

Understood. Everyone is upset and things have gotten a bit out of hand on here, partially because of me. I guess I just figured people would be a bit more objective at looking at the game. Everyone is entitled to their own prognosticating though.

smyce 10-29-2006 06:35 PM

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Wow! We got a wake up call !!!!!!

I think the unrealistic outlooks for this team were just that....unrealistic. A realistic hope was a 10-6 season with a possible playoff berth, not 13-3 with a Superbowl win. All going 5-1 did was give the uneducated and blind fan more hope than they needed and allowed the casual fan to jump on board of a "winner". This team is not winning a Superbowl. To think so is plain foolish. Believing a team can overperform and being a realist...you cant have it both ways. If someone seriously thinks this team is good enough, THIS SEASON, to make a Superbowl run well all the power in the world to you.

It's like the uncle that's always getting arrested. You go bail him out, chew his ass out on the ride home, don't speak to him for weeks, then buy him a beer next time you see him.

Trust me, as frustrated as some people are, they will be back, rooting for their team next Sunday, without question.

yeah, he was hyped up. there aren't too many guys that have the low center of gravity that bush has, giving him the ability to make the cuts that he does. and he was the best receiver in the draft. forget the fact that he can't figure out how to run north-south. kid is a ROOKIE. relax, hell, we gave stallworth three years, and he was the top receiver selected in that draft class.

I've heard slight sprain, though Payton stated that the x-rays came back negative.

What have you heard??? Don't hold back, give up the goods :P

SaintPauly 10-30-2006 04:08 AM

Baltimore, is no slouch team, and though we were favored, I knew this was gonna be a hard one. There record is no indication, of how good they can be, with the talent they have on both sides of the ball. Let's look at this reallistically: I don't think anyone here thought we would go undefeated, at the beginning of the season. It's one game folks. This year, we have lost to two teams, that were predicted into the play offs, at the beginning of the season. If you ask me, that's not too bad. The only problem I have, was getting beat, as bad as we did, in the first half. You can't give up, that many points, to a team, with a defense like the Ravens. You will lose everytime.

From my experience with that type of injury, and only knowing what I saw and how he limped off the field, I know he won't be 100% for a while. The same thing happened to Ricky Williams in preseason when he was a rookie and also to Deuce a couple of years ago. Neither fully rcovered over the course of the season.

Exactly he is a rookie so why play him as much as deuce? I mean Deuce didn't get too much action behind Ricky and look what happened he's the bEST SAINT RB in HIStory correct? ALL I want is for Reggie to learn and use him like we been using him on 3rd downs and both of them in the game that didn't happen yesterday guys he's a rookie that played RB in a sorry pac-10
