What I Learned in the Past Weeks
Biggest area of need for this team in 2007 is at cornerback.
Fred Thomas has played pretty well, but he has been nicked up a bit and he is 33. Mike McKenzie can no longer bump and hitting receivers after five yards and that has hurt his game . Run support has improved, but his coverage speed is just above average. Teams will pick on him without fear. He is not the great one on one cover guy we paid for. The rule change has really hurt his game. He is no better than a #2 if that. I think he could be our Cap casualty next year. Unless he re-does that contract. Look for (I pray) FA CB to be signed and at least a first or second round draft choice to be used also to address this are. Top CB in Draft: Round 1 Leon Hall - Michigan - Sr - will be gone Darrelle Revis - Pittsburgh - Jr - will be gone Marcus McCauley - Fresno State - Sr - might be there Round 2 Daymeion Hughes - California - Sr Zackary Bowman - Nebraska - Sr Antoine Cason - Arizona - Jr If McCauley falls I would not be surprised to see us pull the triger. All depends if Revis comes out. I still do not why Daymeion is getting the rap he is. No one throws against him. and he is 6-2 with 4.55 speed. Run support maybe? Keep in mind MONEY Charles Grant, Jon Stinchcomb, Mark Simoneau, and Hollis Thomas, to name a few, are all FA next year also. So what we do with them will determine what we do else were. Grant will cost some big bucs. The others I think can be done within reason. Though Jon is having a good season. He could attract attention on the market because tackles are always in demand. He is a big surprise. I was wrong about him. This will be more interesting next year than last when it all said and done. |
