Three things to correct to get to the playoffs
!) Stop throwing over the middle in the redzone. That means Brees needs to work on his arm strength over the last 6 weeks or there's no hope. If all we do is run up the gut 3 times and take a field goal, it beats driving for 6 minutes only to completely demoralize a qobbly defense.
2) Treat Bush like LaDanian Tomlinson, not some cute freak who can do it on his own, because it is painfully clear he can't. Tomlinson gets regular plays like any other back, only he sees the field a bit better. If Bush can't see the field yet, just make him a WR and stop fooling around. Deuce is the Man in the backfield, so get that train going. Make the LB covering Bush do more than have to sit near the line waiting for the dump off. This has been the worst utilization of a featured back I've ever seen. 3) How hard is it to play a safety over the top of the other team's best WR? Johnson's recptions were all Thomas naked on the edge. That's been a problem all season and now it's just getting a bit silly. Buy time, fake once, throw over the top where Thomas or MacKenzie can't be a factor. Too damn easy. One FInal Note: LInemen and Linebackers have to stay in position. There's way too much given up at the point of attack because of seemingly nonsensical stunts and cheating away from the edges. Keeping the skill players in front of you should be the mantra, because every time the get parallel or behind, the play's over - TD. The Bengals and Steelers were operating with makeshift lines and we put minimal pressure - or mre accurately incorrect pressure- on Palmer and Rothlesberger. |

Venturi sighting...
In other words... 1. He means throw some fade routes in there or some in and out patterns. 2. Run the damn football. 3. Give the corners some help and stop putting them on an island by themselves. Lastly... Stick to your responsibilities and stop trying to be a hero. Discipline people... discipline! 8) |

XAN...
Bush is not a feature back... he never was! I think everyone needs to see his USC games and see he wasn't that at all. How can we expect him to be that here in NO is beyond me. |

RE: Three things to correct to get to the playoffs
Chad Johnson was quoted as saying, "He's probably the best cornerback I'll face this entire season. We've got (Denver's) Champ (Bailey) in a couple of weeks but he's by far the best I've seen. He's all over the place and I'm really looking forward to this matchup against Mike and the rest of this defense," during the week, leading up to the Saints' matchup.
Too bad Thomas was asked to try and control Chad for most of the game. That was a paper move.... |
