Akili a Saint ??? WHY ???
Say it aint so. Saints talking to Akili Smiths agent?
Do they think he can make the switch to cornerback? Boy, JT O'Sullivan must be a little confused about things right now! Thats gotta be a tad humbling for the redhead! Why are they even cosidering this guy? There will be much better QB's cut before the season starts that can fill the #3 role. Something smells and I don't know what it is. Akili a Saint ??? WHY ???
Maybe they are looking at the conversion to CB. JT is a better QB than Akili.

NFL | Four Teams Interested In A. Smith - from www.KFFL.com Wed, 4 Jun 2003 05:50:05 -0700 Updating previous reports, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports four teams have contacted the agent for free agent QB Akili Smith (Bengals). The Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints have called Smith’s agent, Kennard McGuire, and the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers are two other teams that could be interested, although they are both unconfirmed. |

Akili a Saint ??? WHY ???
This may just be my optimism about a QB who has yet to prove his worth in the NFL, but Akili Smith MAY NOT be a bad pick-up. You have to stop and think that this guy played with the Bungles. That\'s enough to drop ANYONE\'s stats and make them look horrendous. I don\'t ever forsee Akili being a starting QB in the NFL, but in the right system, he could be a decent back-up. Just look at Cincinatti\'s QB sitution since he has been there. Jon Kitna? Gus Frerotte? Scott Mitchell? Those are some of the worst QB\'s in the NFL. Only Kitna really had potential, but that was when he was with Seattle. Cincinatti is a graveyard for QB\'s like Colorado is a graveyard for pitchers in baseball. Who was the last GOOD QB Cincinatti had? You guessed it.....Boomer Esiason. It has been quite a while since Boomer donned the stripes, so that should tell you the quality of QB\'s that have come in and out of Cincinatti. So far, Smith has been a bust. I agree with that. There has to be some sort of upside, though. A change of scenery could be exactly what Smith needs to break out of that rut he is in. BTW.....I think Carson Palmer is well on his way to being another first round bust.

Smith, it difficult to judge. I am sure he is almost free. He played with the Bengals, not a fair analysis. It hurts nothing to give him a look. A change of scenery makes a huge difference to many players.

Akili a Saint ??? WHY ???
This guy was picked very high in the draft a few years ago. He was a very good college QB. Anytime you have a chance to get a guy like this it is worth checking into, which is exactly what the saints are doing, but i wonder what aaron brooks is thinking about with the signing of Bowman and the talk about aquiring Akili. There is a lot of negitive talk in and around the leauge about Aarron Brooks. This might be his make or break year, but do we really want to start over @ QB?

Akili a Saint ??? WHY ???
Not sure what to think about Akili Smith at this time. SHould the Saints take a look at him, I think so. If we can get him for rock bottom price then why not. You have to admit that being with the Bengals does nothing for a players career, but going to a team with some weapons and OL for protection may make him a better QB. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Akili a Saint ??? WHY ???
If we sign him for next to nothing (and we will)...
Pros: 1. Provides more competition 2. Sends signal to AB, get serious 3. Player with good upside, at relatively no cost at all 4. Could develop into quality player under new/different system 5. If he flops, so what, what\'d he cost us? NOTHIN\' 6. He provides a mobile QB for our scout team. Cons: 1. May hurt AB\'s feelings |
