Reason for optimism
The Saints offense has had a rough time dealing with 3-4 based defenses. Now, I know that the SF D is not a truly talented or feared defense, but many of the schemes they run are similar to those the Ravens and the Steelers ran. It is encouraging to see that the offense has adjusted to this. Sunday night, another 3-4 defense presents its challenges, and the Cowboys are a much more talented and disciplined unit. The success yesterday and the fortuitous schedule of 2 back to back similar schemes may yield a favorable outcome.
Nice to see that when a starter goes down, there's a very capable backup ready to pick up without missing a beat. Devry, Campbell, and Jones did great, especially blocking downfield, for which they'll get film room points. Also note that the defensive line has been decimated, but held up remarkably well, allowing the fewest rushing yards this season; now, being behind 38-10 shouldn't have had anything to do with the SF playcalling. |
