this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; we can only loase one more game in the division which would give us to losses if we lost. atlanta has already loss twice to us. if we win this week we will be 10-4 with 2 games to go. ...

if we win this week do we not win the division
we can only loase one more game in the division which would give us to losses if we lost. atlanta has already loss twice to us. if we win this week we will be 10-4 with 2 games to go. even if atalanta wins this week they can only tie our record if we loss our last two games and they won their last two. we have beaten them twice and our divy records would be the same. so would we not win the division with a win this week. carolina can at best go 9-7. so if we win this week they can't catch us. i don't see how we don't win the division with a win this week. let me know peoples if i am mistaken in my thoughts.

RE: if we win this week do we not win the division
Im pretty sure we do, we are 9-4(damn that sounds nice), Atlanta is 7-6, and Carolina 6-7. Atlanta is basically 3 games behind, meaning even if we both have the same record, we still have the tiebreaker due to head to head. We are 8-1 in the conference, Atlanta is 5-4 and Carolina 4-6. Im pretty darn sure when we beat Washington, we will clinch the NFC South, or at least a playoff spot. Can someone come in and verify this....?

RE: if we win this week do we not win the division
In the division, if there is a tie, tiebreakers are:
1) Head to head. 2) division record. 3) Conference record. When we win Sunday, our worst record could only be 10-6. Carolina already has 7 losses. So when we win Sunday, Carolina is eliminated from the division championship. When we win Sunday, our worst record could only be 10-6. Atlanta already has 6 losses. So when we win Sunday, the best that Atlanta can do is tie us. Atlanta has already been swept, so they lose on the first tiebreaker. So when we win Sunday, we win the division championship plain and simple. No doubt about it. More importantly when we win Sunday, we maintain the #2 seed in the NFC with the bye associated with it. Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

The only way that Carolina can finish with a better division record than the Saints is to win both of its games against Atlanta and the Saints. Also since we have 9 wins and Carolina has 7 losses, the magic number between the two teams is 1. So any additional Saints win or any addition Carolina loss eliminates Carolina from the division equation.
Our magic number with respect to Atlanta is also 1. Even though the Falcons are a game ahead of Carolina, they have been swept by the Saints. So in the end all the Saints have to do is win Sunday against Washington and eliminate all doubt. SFIAH |

SFIAH.....I believe all your facts are straight
I like the fact that you're saying "when we win". Sunday could be a bit of a trap game, but I don't think our team gets complacent. Also....remember our win serves two purposes. First, we won and that kicks ass. Second, dallas is going to Atlanta on Saturday and boy are they pissed. They wil rip Vick a new pooper. Really the only hope anyone has at the division is for us to lose the rest of our games. |
