Saints NFC South Division Winners!!!
Why am I not happier about this? I mean, damn. Today was supposed to be the day we all came in here posting our joys, and triumphs, and just slapping each other with high fives. Now it's just like, yay, we won the division. :puke:
I am going to say this: We beat the hell out of the Cowboys last week, and they came back to destroy the Falcons in Atlanta. Maybe we can call this a good loss, in the respect that the team knows now, NOT to take any team for granted. Gibbs is fighting to keep his job one more year, so of course this is a big win for him. Another positive, is that we played like absolute shiznit, and were still in the game, all the way till the end. While also giving up 112 yards rushing to Betts. The bend don't break defense, took the "stretch armstrong" approach once again, and only gave up 16 points, when it should have been ALOT more. At least we stunk as a team today. Every aspect of our game sucked, so there's really no one person to blame I guess. We should just be happy we won the division, and forget about this hiccup. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time doing that. |
RE: Saints NFC South Division Winners!!!
Dude, that's the best avatar on the site right now. I laugh everytime I read your posts.
I was at the game and it was the most boring game of the year. It was losing in slow motion and just seemed like we were walking through the paces. That's just how it looked from a fans perspective. I did eat 4 dome dogs today. :phat: |

Yeah. I used to be a hell of a dancer, but then I gained weight. :D I can only imagine the folks at the game's dissappointment. Did they do anything for winning the division at least? |

NFC South Champs, I'll continue to remind myself of this all week, the only thing that will get me through to the next game.

RE: Re: RE: Saints NFC South Division Winners!!!
Ok, it's Monday morning, and the worst of my tyrade about yesterday's game is over. Now, I am going to enjoy the feeling of being the Champs. I still want that second seed. I think really what happened was more shock factor for me. This game was the last one I thought we would lose, of the few remaining, so I apologize to everyone for losing my head.
I'm going to miss the Giants game this Sunday, as I will be in a plane all day, making the trip home for Christmas. My parents live in a rural area, so I won't be on here too much in the next two weeks, as they have yet to get DSL. Anyway, I'm going to talk alot until then. : ) |
If we couldn't get motivated yesterday to finish it out, that's a very bad sign...not a hiccup. Washington showed every team we play for the rest of the year how to beat us...a very bad sign. So what "win or lose we win division." That's no reason to play like drunks. If we'd have won, Payton could rest some palyers for the playoffs and give the young guys more PT. Now that we played like the Saints we're all used to, Payton is forced to keep playing everyone becuase they played so bad and risk a critical injury. We screwed ourselves on so many levels yesterday it's not even funny.

Oh really? Well then Carolina showed the league how to beat the Saints in week 4...and so did Baltimore and Cincy. PLEASE?!?!? What the Saints showed us yestarday is that this young team still has to learn a little about keeping their emotions in tact. They looked flat. I don't think we were out schemed just simply out played. We looked flat. Now I am not saying that the Cowboys game took everything out of our sails but hey.....you can't deny that game was huge. I don't care what the Redskins record is either. They still have a good team with lots of talent. And to top it off, with all the bad things that happened yestarday....WE ALMOST WON!!! So guys pleeez!! Lay off the team a little...I admit whole-heartedly that things did not look pretty. They need to learn how to keep their focus for 16 games. Remember some of our best and MOST productive players are ROOKIES that last year played a schedule that was approximately 11 weeks long. Regardless of what happens from here on out (even though I still think we will be just fine.) We finally have one thing the Saints have not had since the late 80's....a solid foundation for the future!!

I'm not saying that's going to happen again, but we should give it a couple of seasons, before we march Payton up and down Bourbon Street on our shoulders. Many coaches in history have gotten their teams to the play offs, and never did more than that. Look at Mike Martz. He took the Rams to the Super Bowl, lost, and was fired two seasons later. Now, I know you guys hate negative thinking, but you also have to keep yourself grounded in the fact, that one season, does not make a career. Payton is on the right track. I just hope he doesn't derail the way Haslett did. That's not negative thinking, that's being real. |

Anyways, we are the NFC South Division winners, and that's something to be proud of. It didn't exactly happen the way we wanted it to, but it happened; and it's something we've never done before. I hope the guys are proud of they're accomplishment, but realize that it don't mean sh** if they go out in the first round. Who dat?!?!? |

Anyone who's a fan of football can figure out what you need to do to beat a team. To beat the Chargers you have to stop LT from running all over you. I guess they're doomed right? Knowing how to beat a team is entirely different from doing it. If Baltimore provided the formula for beating us why did we end up going 9-5 for the season thus far? And resting players????? That is exactly the thing we SHOULDN'T do. We don't need to give youger players reps. Maybe you're thinking of a year where people are playing for their jobs and have nothing else to play for. When you are winning, you need to keep winning, not rest players. That's a surefire way to lose momentum. Players get injured on the field, off the field and everywhere in between. |
And some are caught with illegal automatic fire arms in their automobiles. Don't you think it's ironic that his name is "Tank"? :biggun:

OK,
The Ravens D is a monster for every team to face. They are not 4-9. The Pitt game we had them beat until Willie broke off those 2 big runs. We had Cinci in a dead heat until Palmer wiggled out of a sack and hit a big pass to 85. We lost to Carolina by a field goal. Washington was different. They schooled us the whole game. Our O did squat - a lot to do with Washington's game plan. Addintionally, our team was not motivated to go for the kill at the most important time which equals a quick exit from the playoffs again. If we had palyed Washington like we played Dallas we could rest SOME OF OUR BANGED UP PLAYERS. Not all of them. We have a playoff spot already so playing everyone when we already have a playoff spot is unintelligent if the team is playing how a playoff team and division winner should play in December. We didn't do that so now we risk further injuring people that could be healing up for a big playoff run. |

I'm sorry but I just don't see how you could compare a Redskins team playing for nothing to a Dallas team who you might see in the playoffs in a few weeks. I see no similarities at all. The team knew that they had the NFC South locked up coming out of halftime. They thought they could win just by showing up. This was a pure maturity issue. The team needs to learn how to balance the up weeks with the down weeks, and that doesn't just happen automatically, especially after going 3-13 the year before. Why would them team get as emotionally hyped up for Washington as they would for a top playoff-contending team. As much as we would like players to go all out every game, it doesn't work like that. It doesn't work like that for any NFL team. That being said, we still should have won the game. I don't see how one loss is being viewed as a precursor to the the playoffs. Why wouldn't the Dallas game or any of our other 9 wins be more of an indication of what we'll do in the playoffs? Seems like we've been winning more than we've been losing this season. |
Another way to look at this, and I know, because I will be guilty of it myself probably, is that if we come out of New York with a massive victory on Sunday, we will all forget about the loss to Washington, and it won't be mentioned again. Ya' know?

Speaking of the Giants..............
Why isn't the NFL making the Giants play their "home" game against the Saints in New Orleans???? I mean it is the least we can do after they showed us such great hospitality last year.............that would be classic. We all know how the Giants hold their s#%t together when the going gets tough!! but then again our home record sucks compared to our road record. and yes if there was a game the Saints could afford to loose their focus, this was the game, but no more. I liked Peyton' quotes about the loss, he and the other coaches just have to do a better job getting them ready, NICE, I am more stoked about the Giants game than the cowgirl game-- I am in the heart of Texas and it is great listening to the Cowgirl fans going for the team that kicked their assets last Sun night.
