Best of the Mediocre (NFC Playoff Scenarios)
BEST OF THE MEDIOCRE
Times-Picayune, Dec. 26 The scenarios for the 7-8 teams in the NFC to make the playoffs (in order of current seeding): GIANTS (at Redskins) In with a win, or if all five teams at 7-8 lose, the Giants would make the playoffs at 7-9. PACKERS (at Bears) In with a win and a New York loss. Only other scenario in which the Packers would not qualify is if they are in a two-team tie with St. Louis. In that case, they are eliminated virtue of a 23-20 loss to the Rams on Oct. 8. PANTHERS (vs. Saints) In with a win and a New York and Green Bay loss. RAMS (at Vikings) In with a win and if all other 7-8 teams lose, unless Green Bay is the only other winner. FALCONS (at Eagles) In with a win and if all other 7-8 teams lose, unless St. Louis is the only winner. The Falcons beat the Rams head-to-head virtue of a better strength of victory in the conference. Compiled by Jim Derry http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/index...xml&coll=1 8) |

Does it look like we could face the Eagles at home for the Divisional Round?

RE: Best of the Mediocre (NFC Playoff Scenarios)
The Green Bay scenario isn't exactly correct.
Green Bay is currently behind the Giants. This is based on the common opponents tiebreaker. However if Green Bay beats Chicago on Sunday evening, then the common opponents records of both the Giants and the Packers would be 1-5 moving both teams down the tiebreaker list to strength of victory. A win over Chicago (currently a 13-2 team) would move the Packers ahead of the Giants in the SoV category. So if the Packers win, they are in no matter what the Giants do. Only that scenario with the Rams can keep them out. SFIAH |

Whereas, if Philly stumbled against Atlanta...and Dallas got their division, then Dallas is #3. I can't really bring myself to pull for Atlanta though......under no circumstances do I want to see them in the playoffs, as slim a chance as it may be for them. We'll see how it works out. |

I have new information. The win over Chicago isn't sufficient to get the Packers over the hump in the SoV category. Actually the Giants are way ahead of the Pack in SoV. I found a Giants press release here: http://www.giants.com/news/press_rel...story_id=24211 That outlines everything that needs to happen for the Packers to win in SoV: Quote:
