Vince Young: AP Offensive Rookie of Year

By BARRY WILNER
AP Football Writer

NEW YORK (AP) -- Vince Young, the dynamic quarterback for the Tennessee Titans won The Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year Award on Wednesday. He did it in the same fashion he turned around the Titans' season - running away from the rest of the field.

Young, who led Texas to the 2005 national championship and was the third overall pick in last April's draft, overwhelmed one of the strongest rookie classes in NFL history. He received 23 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.

That easily beat New Orleans wide receiver Marques Colston and Jacksonville running back Maurice Drew, who had nine apiece; San Diego tackle Marcus McNeill (6); and Saints running back Reggie Bush (3).

Yeah, but he took an 0-5 team to 8-8. Even the defense started playing better when Vince took over. If Chow stays, the AFC South will have problems dealing with him. I still think Colston deserved it, but I can't say Vince didn't.

Kinda smacks of Romo to the Pro Bowl yea? He did a great job but you'd think he might have had to play a bit longer. Oh well our boys did well I think. They can be our "Rookies of the year."

Has there ever been a rookie class that's been this immediately good? I seriously think the '06 draft may go down as one of the best of all time.

What a deep draft class. Standouts like Maroney, Addai, Norwood, Jennings and Vernon Davis didn't even get a vote. Wow.

Colston's three games he sat out injured killed his chances at RoY. The voting is all about monentum, and Colston lost it. Bush got his votes because he's starting to come on these last few weeks.

I don't believe Vince Young is the best rookie out there. I don't even think Young is the best rookie QB. Young won more games, but Leinart had more passing yards, a better passer rating and one less TD pass in two less starts. But voters saw Young winning games late in the season and bringing the Titans close to a playoff spot.

Vince Young missed the Titans' team flight to Philadelphia, and his reaction worried some people close to him. Upset at being left behind, Young indicated he wasn't going to make the trip on his own. But he did, and led the Titans to a victory. In the two days afterward, he didn't show up to watch film. The immaturity extended to the field at times. On Dec. 17 against the Jaguars he threw a third-down pass out of bounds to stop the clock after coaches told him not to throw it under any circumstance.
