2006 Saints - A metaphor for personal vindication

On a personal note, 2006 has been trying but it has been a remarkable year for me. Going into this year, I was unsatisfied with my life and set out to make some positive changes. I came to terms with a lot of mistakes I made in the past and was able to forgive myself. I went to a counelor and worked some issues out with my wife and our relationship is stronger than ever. I spent a lot of time jogging and lost 25 pounds. I worked at a job for years where I was constantly discredited and unrespected, but I got out and found a new job. Through every change and personal success, it seems to have parallelled the Saints season - the hiring of Payton, drafting Reggie Bush, signing Drew Brees, the Green Bay game, the home opener, the win against the Cowboys, 10-6 and playoffs. Like the Saints, I felt disrespected and took it upon myself to turn things around and recover a lot of dignity. When the Saints win, I can't explain how good it feels. When they lose, it just means they have to work a little harder so they can comeback with a vengeance. Everyday I feel a little like Rocky in a black and gold #25 uniform .

I also think a lot about Hurricane Katrina and what so many people are going thru. I know that whatever challenges I face probably pale in comparison to those that some of you are dealing with the aftermath of the storm. But if the great play of the Saints keeps you optimistic and excited in the face of adversity in the rest of your life, I'd just like to say I know how that feels. My best wishes go out to all of you in NOLA.
