Fox's Delucia on DL's (sorry if already posted)

Brian Delucia speaks of our Charles Grant: "Charles Grant had a productive rookie season with the New Orleans Saints. Grant possesses very natural up-field skills for a young player, but has some inconsistency and inexperience to overcome. The Saints will be a lot more aggressive along the defensive front this season. Grant could be dangerous if he develops more consistency with his speed and athleticism. " I know I'm a homer, but I have a real good feeling our DL may surprise a few naysayers this year. |

Maybe this will spark some feedback...
I think our DL will be a welcome surprise...but do ya think Aaron Brooks is the problem? [Edited on 18/6/2003 by tweeky] |

Aaron is definitely the problem. He\'s too tall for one thing. And he needs to start throwing more off his back foot. I mean, c\'mon, where\'s the arm strength display? Also, he completes too many passes to his WR\'s. He should throw more to his RB\'s and TE\'s regardless of whether they catch it or not. It\'s called spreading the ball around, Aaron. Quit dishing it to your WR buddies!
He obviously is having problems picking up the playbook since it seemed last year we never made the correct defensive calls. He fails to get Haslet motivated enough to fire up the team when we play lower caliber teams and he leaves the game everytime he gets a little bout of carpet burn. Speaking of Haslet for a min. Wouldn\'t he look more intelligent giving his interviews with a pencil behind his ear? Just a thought. |

No problem. Everyone seems to have an opinion on Aaron and since that opinion is probably set in stone I thought I\'d try a new approach.
I\'m just breaking up the monotony I\'ve felt since we have beat the AB debate into the ground. Numerous times. [Edited on 18/6/2003 by ScottyRo] |

I was definitely joking. I guess I\'ll have to work harder on my on-line sarcasm.
So there\'s no confusion....I think Aaron is the best Qb we could have at the moment (I\'m not saying there aren\'t better out there, but they\'re not available). If he could only put in a full season with the success he has in the first half of seasons, there would be no discussion on whether he is good enough for our team. Back to the original topic for this thread.... There is an article at nola.com on how much Haslet & Co are excited about the \"new\" defense. I am positive they\'ll be better, but how much I don\'t know. I am really excited about the DL but I was excited about it last year too and we all know how that turned out. Can we really count on a rookie and a first year starter to do the things we need in the middle? Also, the article mentioned that Grady Jackson did not participate in the 14 coaching sessions. What\'s up with that? Are they holding him out until he gets his weight problems straightened out, or what? |

I think with Whitehead, Martin, and Jackson as back-up, we aren\'t in a position where our success depends on Smith and Sullivan. Our defense WILL be somewhat better. Even a middle-of-the-pack defense would have put us deep in the playoffs last year. On paper we are at least that, maybe even nearing the upper 1/3. |
Whether we agree or disagree; its all for Him.
