2 types of Saints fans
There are two types of fans... I'll begin with the gripers. These are the ones that are the most vocal on sports radio. The "they'll never be good and I'm giving up on them" type. If you listened to Buddy Deliberto, you know who I mean. The Saints would lose and Sunday's drive home talk would be, "They are absolutely horrible. They should fire the coach, quarterback... they should fire the water boy and even the fans in the first row!" Funny part is... these fans said it every year, but every year they'd be back in the 'dome, ready to gripe all over again.
Then there's the "love em no matter what" fans like me. If the Saints were competitive and when the game was over I didn't feel like I watched the Globetrotters beat Washington while I was rooting for Washington... well, I was happy. If we won a game, I was elated for at LEAST a week. And I knew however bad they were, however bleak their future looked, I'd still be a loyal fan for life. And trust me, most of New Orleans feels this way about them. If we don't win it all this year, and we have to wait another few decades to make it this far again, I guarantee you, those of us life-long fans, the love to hate and the love to love fans, we'll all be there rooting our Boys on, until the Saints are marching in. Geaux Saints! |

RE: 2 types of Saints fans
a true fan boos the loudest when his/her team loses
and they cheer the loudest when his/her team wins that's the way it's always been |

I think there are more than 2 types of fans. There are hundreds of types of fans. I am the type who only vents to myself and my wife when things go bad...but when i come in contact with another fan who criticizes the team, i find the silver lining and back the Saints up eventhough sometimes i disagree with what i am saying. I will be at every home game, i will not miss a minute of any road game, and i will be thrilled the entire week after a win, and i will hold onto a loss for usually a day or two. But the Saints take up hours and hours of my time during the week...especially this year...I love 'em, most of us here love 'em and I just hope we all get a chance to see the Black and Gold in Miami.

Ha...I think ALL Saints fans are/were gripers at some point.
But I'm the type that will come on here and complain, but I will never let an "outsider" see my disappointment. And like bobaganoosh said, if somehow up here in Seattle I come in contact with another Saints fan, I will be the most optimistic fan in the world. An ambassador for the Saints, if you will. I complain on here sometimes but that's because this is the only place I CAN complain. Even the biggest of fans have to vent sometimes. And if you're going to complain...there's really not a bigger collection of Saints fans in one spot outside of the Superdome. One thing is that I will NEVER boo when I go to a game. I just don't believe in it. It accomplishes nothing. Never do I remember booing ever helping a team win. |
