The Age Old Question, Offense Vs Defense?
Well with the Bears win, They have once again added to the strength of the age old question of offense vs defense. The perception is that a solid defense will always beat a top notch offense hence the saying, Defense wins championships.
So then the question arises, how good was our offense? Ranks, numbers aside, were we really the best offense in the league? A few things to think about on things that occured this season. The Baltimore game, playing the leagues best D, We got manhandled. Yes we put up some nice numbers but most came late in the game, with not much chance of winning. The Cinci game, we caught Cinci during that strecth when their D got hot. Once again, we came out flat, missed mega opportunities and only put up 16. Then we got the chance to win the division title at home with a victory vs the Skins. Their D played great and once again our offense put up a measley 10 pts. Then there was today vs The Bears. We were out of sink all day, and the D got the better of us again. I know we put up huge numbers Vs Dallas and the Giants, but look at how many pts those teams were giving up late in the season? My point is not to knock the Saints one bit, but to pose a football question based around OUR team and to use it as an example of offense Vs Defense.I have always felt like a good offense has a great shot at winning games for you and that defenses will tire of the air attacks these style of teams pose, but time and time again, I am being proved wrong. I think I can finally admit that building a team around a Defense is the way to get to a championship, something many of you already knew or felt, but I am just here to admit that I see it a lot more clearly now. |
