Saints Training Camp Might Have More Man-Boobage

It's dubious to assume that this is the real reason Bill Parcells retired, but I think the 42-17 Ike-Turnering the Saints laid on the Cowboys last season played a part, however small, in his decision.

Besides T.O., and the strain of being an NFL head coach at Parcells' age, it became obvious -- not just in the game, mind you, but throughout the season -- that Sean Payton, the student, had surpassed the teacher. Nothing wrong with it, it happens to everybody, and Parcells (I think, anyway) did the right thing by stepping down instead of dragging it out.

So Payton was on that little, nonexistent mouse known as the NFL Network the other day, and was asked about Parcells. Coach said he was going to try to get Parcells to come to Saints training camp as a consultant and help advise.

That's not that big of a deal, really, it happens all the time in football. But it would be interesting, in this particular instance, to see the dynamic now that Parcells would be second-cheese.

By the way, here's a little-known fact: Jim Haslett invited Tom Coughlin in, between his stints in Jacksonville and New York, to be a consultant for the Saints. Which is just perfectly indicative of Haslett's state of mind. Of course, I'm using hindsight to judge that particular Haslett decision -- and I'm bias, so I won't balance it out by bringing up a good decision Haslett made in his New Orleans stint (truth: there weren't any) -- but looking at the grip Coughlin currently has on his Giants, it's no wonder the Haslett era failed so miserably. He couldn't even pick consultants right!

Anyway, Parcells may be ever-so-slightly over-the-hill, but he still knows how to verbally abuse a player. Between him and Payton screaming at the players, and the 100+ degree weather they'll be practicing in, this year's training camp is going to be a war of attrition. No matter who emerges from camp on the roster, they'll be thick-skinned.
