The Vikings will select runningback Adrian Peterson, University of Oklahoma.

Explanation:
As pseudo-GM of the Vikings, I had to run this pick by my wife. She is a Vikings fan and I felt that she should have the final say on the pick. Because of her, I get to see a lot of the Vikings games over the course of the season.

The Vikings D is great and they simply need to do a better job of controlling the ball and keep their defense off the field. The Vikings are going to need a better rushing attack to take the pressure off of QB's Brad Johnson and Tavaris Jackson and keep 3rd downs managable. Sure, the Vikes need a WR, but why pick one now when you can wait til the end of the 7th round . And I think current Viking RB Chester Taylor was overworked last year. He needs a runner backing him up that could physically wear down the defense. Peterson fits the bill perfectly and gives the Vikings the 1-2 punch at RB that is now popular in the NFL. The day of the feature back is dying - and overuse cost guys like Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson and Priest Holmes their careers. The Vikings could have a great OL and Peterson is scratching the surface of his ability. And pairing him w/ Taylor will hopefully keep him healthy. Divison-wise, the Colts showed the Vikings that the best way to beat the Bears is to run at them. And we know the Packers and Lions can be run on.

Says Coach Brad Childress - "We're excited to have Peterson at RB. He's a good kid who has been well-coached at Oklahoma. Boy, this offseason has gone quick. Seems like the Super Bowl was just last week!"
