RE: heres the grant news we
Tagging him is okay but I wish a contract was signed. we need him but the tag price is a bit high for him IMO.
|
RE: heres the grant news we
first thought is there must be something payton has against upping his price
|
RE: heres the grant news we

almost 9 million for 1 yr? i can think of at least two players i'd rather pay that kinda money to than grant.............but, as i said before..........i'll give him another yr........this may be the ,,,,"all things work together for the good" year that we make that superbowl run............ we certainly could do a lot worse..........but, could we do better? at least a maybe enters my mind........ i do sleep better with payton at the helm...............smitty |
RE: Re: RE: heres the grant news we
The good news with this story is that Grant we'll be a Saint for sure next season, that's good news for the Saints camp..

RE: Re: RE: heres the grant news we
The question is ? Will Grant play with the same intensity that he's played with his whole career or will he go in the tank because he's been tag ? Remember, the last thing he wanted was to be franchised. I just hope it don't affect him in any way and he can sign a long contract.

I think we'll still get a deal done before the season, but if it doesn't get done I still think he'll play hard. |
He is always great against the run and chasing after the QB, no matter if he catches him or not. He seems to always been one of the top D-linemen against the run.

Great news
I like C. Grant.. i hope the Saints complete a long contract to keep him here for years to come.
Resign Stinchcomb & H. Thomas next. |

Great, it's what we should do to hold it together. We will negotiate with him until we get a deal done. We could not afford to lose him. The fact that he does'nt have alot of sacks means nothing. He funnels plays to the inside so we need a good DT FA pickup to help Thomas stuff the run. We aren't far from the old Dome Patrol defense.

I've never really understood how both sides feel about the franchise tag. The tag get applied when you can't work out a long term deal right? Usually that means that the two side have a disparity in terms (money, years, bonus). The franchise tag is designed to penalize both sides, the team by making them pay a huge cap cost on a yearly basis, and the player by preventing them from testing the free agent market.
What I don't understand then is why don't the two sides try to work it out before the tag has to be brought out, or even after. Why is that? SFIAH |

DE Charles Grant expressed his frustration Tuesday after the Saints designated him as their franchise player. The move requires the Saints to offer Grant a one-year contract worth $8.644 million the average of the top five players at his position. But it prevents the 28-year-old from becoming an unrestricted free agent March 2. Grant can negotiate with other teams, but it is unlikely another team will offer a long-term deal. "I still hope we can work something out," said Grant, who was hoping to either sign a long-term contract extension with the Saints or be allowed to test the free-agent waters. He characterized the Saints' contract discussions so far as "treating me like I'm a scrub" and "trying to spit in our face."
http://www.benmaller.com/nfl_rumors_notes Doesn't sound like a friendly negotiations! |
I wish someone would treat me like a scrub and pay me $8.65MM. Give me a break Grant. If you don't like the tag then you should have put up better numbers last year and forced them to sign you to a long term contract. Or your just asking for too much long term. I think we can all agree that Dwight Freeney is better than you and he got tagged as well. On the bright side they can only tag you for one more season so if you stay in shape and kick butt for the next two years you will get your long term payday. In the meantime you will have to be content with making $17MM over the next two years.

poor baby misses out on that signing bounce.... he is get over paid at 8.65 million as it is. would you say he is the 5th best DE in the NFL. I wouldn't. bottm of the top 10 maybe.
|
He's not even the best DE on his own team. I would put him in the top 20 DE's in the league and that is being generous.
Here are better ones just off the top of my head: Will Smith, Jason Taylor, Simeon Rice, Julius Peppers, Michael Strahan, Jevon Kearse(when healthy) Julian Peterson, Dwight Freeney, John Abraham(when healthy) Justin Smith, Terrell Suggs and Trevor Price, Ogunleye, |
