Saints Looking to sign CB Jason David
Saints eye young Colt:
Friday, April 20, is the deadline for teams to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets, and there could be some action heating up in that regard the next few days. New Orleans, which has tried in futility to upgrade at cornerback over the past two years, is hosting Jason David of the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, and could sign him to an offer sheet that the defending Super Bowl champions would find hard to match. Losing David, who has started all 48 games in which he has appeared during his three seasons in Indianapolis, would be a tough pill for the Colts to swallow after losing starting cornerback Nick Harper to Tennessee as an unrestricted free agent last month. David, just 24, is a very solid defender in the Tampa 2 scheme, plays bigger than his size, and has eight interceptions in three years. The Colts tendered him at the lowest qualifying offer, a one-year deal worth $850,000, and that may have been a mistake. Were the Saints to sign David to an offer sheet, one the Colts couldn't match, Indianapolis would receive only a fourth-round draft pick as compensation. More critical, the Colts would be forced to play with two new starting cornerbacks in 2007. Word is the Saints are serious about trying to pry David from the Colts. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insid...len&id=2836372 |

I hope they can get him. At 24, and already with more than two years of starting experience, he can only get better.

This would be an awesome pick up. We could then go with the the 27th pick, and still get a quality DB in the 2nd round
a fourth rounder would be dirt cheap for a starter other than Peyton being on SNL, it has not been a good off season for Indy, or the Bears for that matter. |

Saints | Team could offer contract to J. David
Sun, 15 Apr 2007 21:42:35 -0700 John Murphy, of Yahoo! Sports, reports the New Orleans Saints are expected to make an offer to restricted free-agent CB Jason David (Colts). Sources say the offer will possibly contain a "poison pill" that would be hard for the Indianapolis Colts to match. The Colts would receive a fourth-round draft pick if David is signed to an offer sheet and the team refuses to match the offer. http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl#385746 |

I do not know about this one. I just can not get excited about this option. It is not so much David himself as giving up a 4th for him. I just think that rounds 3 to 5 has so many interesting players in them. I hate to lose the pick. Plus it will weaken our ability to move around in the Draft. Getting a solid proven CB and a good developemental CB is there this year. Still undecided.

You got to remember he's a zone type CB, a Tampa 2 is what the Colts use. I'm not saying he would not be a good pickup, but what if he just not a man on man type defender.
