Wat does Jason David do to our draft?

now that we got him, how good does everyone think this guy really is? i think i've heard his name twice before last week. anything is better than fred thomas but is david good enough for us to ignore ross or revis in the draft (assuming they fall that far) and go after another needed position?

saintsfan1976 04-26-2007 05:45 PM

not good enough to IGNORE those guys, but he's got huge upside and adds youth, superbowl experience, hunger and depth at the position.

me likey!!!!

hagan714 04-26-2007 06:22 PM

nothing at all. we are for the first time going to go with the BPA approach. last year we got a taste of it and this year should be just as much guessing

saintsrule 04-26-2007 07:05 PM

So many people wanted the team to get a CB, so now they have him. Let's just hope he plays like they want, like the rest of the team played last year.

JOESAM2002 04-26-2007 07:45 PM

He's got to be better than Fred Thomas. Fred was good in his day but so was I. LOL

Bobaganoosh 04-26-2007 08:07 PM

Guys, its about time to stop thinking about Hall, Revis, and Ross because they will all be top 20 picks...they will all be long gone by the time the Saints are on the clock...so David does not affect them one bit.

BRSaintsFan 04-26-2007 08:14 PM

I echo the sentiment these guys have in that it gives us the option to go BPA. We can go corner with Ross or Houston. Maybe LB with Poluszny or David Harris. WR with Jarrett, Bowe, maybe Ginn or Meachem. DT with Harrell. We even have the option of adding depth on the line or getting another solid DE.

FatiusJeebs 04-26-2007 10:54 PM

Something tells me we will be trading up. I get the feeling we will be lookin for a WR now that we have David.

Bobaganoosh 04-27-2007 01:22 AM

Why trade up for a WR if you know that either Jarrett, Bowe, Meachem, or Smith is going to be there when we pick?

papz 04-27-2007 08:23 AM

If it wasn't Hall or Revis, I don't think we would have went corner in the first anyways. It definately makes our roster better. It probably just lessens our need to take a corner high. I think we'll go BPA regardless if we had signed him or not.

WhoDat205 04-27-2007 08:37 AM

BPA, BPA, BPA...

Oh, and while Fred Thomas was getting burned by Philly and Chicago, Jason David was intercepting Tom Brady to go the Superbowl

dwiley21 04-27-2007 01:38 PM

our first round pick will be at Paytons favorite position. He'll take the best available Safety!

:-P

Peter King of CNNSI.com agrees with you as he has us taking Reggie Nelson with our pick. Personally, I dont see it happening but ya never know.

Jabar13 04-27-2007 02:35 PM

Jason David will provide much needed help at the corner and allow us to have a better nickel package with Thomas and Craft. I think the Saints should look at a DT, LB or CB.

jrmllb 04-27-2007 02:50 PM

I think it will be a DT, Jarret, or Poz...Still could be a CB but I doubt it...

Euphoria 04-27-2007 03:44 PM

No Trade Up...

The best options for us is BPA and there are a few good ones that could surprise people. Hell, it'll be better to trade down and get an extra pick.

I see us going WR possible TE.

Meacham or Jarret

lynwood 04-27-2007 03:45 PM

I think D-Line Help or whoever the BPA is at our turn. Don't see us trading down, but possibly trading up throwing in a later round pick.

WHODATNJ 04-27-2007 04:34 PM

I would speculate that we will draft the player that is still available in this order at 27. I do have a feeling that we will try to move up for Greg Olsen if he does drop past the 17th pick. I would consider it a smart move to upgrade the offence with a talented TE that has great hands. He would be an instant upgrade and a starter.

(1) Greg Olsen
(2) Paul Poz
(3) Dwayne Bowe

i will tell you that another name that has been floating around the Saints facility the last week or so is David Harris...MLB from Michigan.

Dont be surprised to hear his name called 27th.

Now this I'd like!!! Gotta love a middle linebacker.

Someone, (sorry I cant recall and will look back to find it) posted an article about Harris singing the praises of the treatment he received from the Saints. I certainly could see him sneaking into round 1 as he has been making a fast and furious late rise up draft boards in the last week or so. Personally, I would rather hold off and try to Buster Davis later on because he has more upside. But with Harris, you know what you are getting in a consistent run stopping MLB.

FatiusJeebs 04-28-2007 05:21 PM

I figured this would occur. not sure if Beacham was the best choice but i had a feeling we would be getting a reciever since we acquired David. Now that we have picked a WR....i hope we can find some defensive studs in the lattaer rounds. oh and a good backup QB.

SoulStar 04-28-2007 05:30 PM

maybe the need to draft a young qb should happen next year, as the talent pool next year will be deep at qb.

it's not the first time (see Will Smith and Deuce McAllister, oh, and Reggie Bush)

Side note: I read a quote from the Saints front office that they were going to take Demeco Ryans, LB Alabama in last year's draft, but the Texans beat them to it one spot ahead with the 1st pick of the 2nd round. We ended up trading down and getting Harper. I like Harper, but imagine the NFC Defensive Rookie of the year who had 160 tackles last year! That would have been the best draft ever...
