i think we went a little overboard on the gem finding thing too....i think we got good players...i just think we reached on most of them. we could have gotted better players and picked some of these guys later or gotten them out of free agency.

He is a poor mans Reggie Bush, so basically, he will be a back up for years to come unless he shows something and we can trade him to a team needing a back. I don't understand any of the picks except the first. Kent State, Akron, Towson State and Wingate? Come on, I think Payton's ego in regards to coaching up small school picks went a little overboard. Don't you?

No, what I notice is that he is taking players that are SIMILAR to the players he has. We have all these special plays made up for REGGIE, not Generic Running Back #052, so who better to plug in if Reggie breaks and ankle than Reggie-Lite. INSTEAD of re-writing half the play book in mid-season we Plug in a unique player who can at least Sub, if not replace, another unique player. That isn't ego, that is genius.

A QB that is smart and mobile, not the biggest arm, not the tallest... Am I talking about Brees or the new Undrafted FA QB we just signed? The answer is "Yes". Starting to get the idea?

I was puzzled by a few of the picks (mainly Marvin Mitchell, that made no sense to me and I doubt he'll make the final roster), but I was equally puzzled with last years draft, and look how that turned out. Offensive line depth was a concern of mine, entering the draft. We walked out with Nesbit's replacement in Alleman, and Bushrod, who I know nothing about. But if these two turn out to be anything like Evans and Strief, my concerns are gone. Drafting Pittman was a great value, and I doubt that Stecker survives June cuts as a result. Obviously Meachem was a great pick for us, I expected him to go earlier. Before the draft, I said all he needed to do was land with a good coach that could work with him on his bad traits, and he could be something special in this league. And lucky for him, he was picked by one of the finest offensive minds in the game. I know nothing about Young other than he was rising up team's draft boards quickly, and less about David Jones.
Unlike last year, where I openly ripped into the staff for some of their selections, this year I'll take a wait and see approach.

Amen on the wait and see approach. Getting all worked up at this point is silly. These same Fo people did a very good job last year and I see no reason to jump on their azz right now when we have nothing to judge by. We did not see the workouts of these players nor did we see film on them. Let's gather our collective breath and wait and see what happens.

Honestly, I like the draft class overall. We got good value in Meacham and Pittman (Memnoch makes a good point about him filling in well for Reggie) and several of the guys (Young and Alleman come to mind) are definitely charachter guys with a lot of potential if you believe the scouting reports. There may have been some residual hubris from the Colston pick that led to all of the small school picks, but if we get one player that has 1/2 the impact Colston did, then all those picks are validated IMO.

I'll rather trust the people who evaluate players for a living and coach them on the field than someone who occasionally read or write a story of somebody overhyped.
A lot of guys was thrilled with the Hasslet draft picks and look where they're at today.
