I Love This Draft

Not only did Payton out think and out play the other teams he got us players who will be stars... they are gems in hard to find places. Why do you think everyone was scratching there head. Payton GETS IT! You don't worry about the draft position and don't be set on filling needs. When you do that other teams know where you are drafting and will try and move up to get the guy you want before you. When your guy is available you take him... when the BPA is there regardless of what school he played or what national attention he got, you take him. Its about putting the right players in the right place at the right time. How else does a first year coach takes a professional francise to a confrence championship game.

You have to get players in to protect our francise... Brees, Bush, Deuce.

You score 28 points a game you'll go undefeated in the NFC South.

You also don't just build your team in the draft you also have to work FA like the Patriots and Payton did a pretty good job there as well. WE are the team to beat in the NFC.

i love this draft too! and i'd like to address all who feel like we should have paid more attention to defense than offense....in order to remain at the top of the league in offensive statistics, you must continue to build year to year...i dont think the pittman pick was a head-scratcher by any means. reggie is the future for sure, and while deuce may be right at his peak, he's not getting any younger, and does have a history of injuries. nothing wrong at all with the O-line picks...come on! you have the best offense in the league and you must protect all you have invested in brees, bush, and deuce. if we hadn't signed simmons and david, then i would question not going after the poslousky (sp?) kid, but our LBs got the job done last year, and will continie to get better. DT was not deep this year, and our DL is not too shabby, so i think we are fine there too.

its just a great feeling to finally be able to trust your coaching staff. this is not the ditka or haslett administration. we are in the sean payton era, and we need to put our faith in him...he will take care of our team.

I would agree with you but I think Cleveland hood winked us more than once. They traded up in the second ahead of us an got Wright. Then in the fourth they traded in front of us an got one heck of an OC/OG in Mansfield Wrotto. We were that close to having completed our backups on the OL. Would love to know if this is true or just me. Where is our inside connection.

Nope...I dig this draft...think it says the staff trusts their judgement and the scouts they employ. Did we work the small school angle a bit much? maybe. But what about...well...you know where I'm going with that.

We needed O-Line help. Not just any help, but young help. after the job our staff did with the guys we got last year, I won't doubt what they can do with the kids we got in this draft. Reports say they are pretty workable..that'll do

As far as secondary..Wright and McCauley had a ton of question marks over their heads. Both are talented, but I can see where the staff wasn't sold due to those points. The kids we picked up not only showed what they have to bring over multiple years, but seem smart too, or at least worth the risk at the time taken (Jones). Young did seem like a reach, but a lot of his qualities line up with a reach we had last year.

I'm happy enough to say that we came out with what we really needed...depth. Still think we could have used a DT, but the only one I really thought was a slam dunk was Okoye....Sully still has me gunshy on that.

He is a poor mans Reggie Bush, so basically, he will be a back up for years to come unless he shows something and we can trade him to a team needing a back. I don't understand any of the picks except the first. Kent State, Akron, Towson State and Wingate? Come on, I think Payton's ego in regards to coaching up small school picks went a little overboard. St- I admire your passion. I am a little pissed also, we were in position to take a known prospect, and then we move back, or grab a Div 2A guy. Baffling.
We'll know what these guys can do soon enough. Meachum is a 3 who will see time; don't see much for the rest

Missile,

It is all about CAP space for the future. They found diamonds in the rough hoping to polish them! These small collage recruits won't cost as much in the SHORT term! Think about what the Saints spent in FA...Grant alone was not CHEAP. We have Will Smith coming up pretty soon!

Love It

If ya don't go after the small school recruits you don't get a Colston!!! The CB's are good. Sure they aren't the sexy ones from big schools but when they do the job... look out. LB's we picked up some in FA. I am so happy the OL was address it really needed to be. Some have the RB rated as the 3rd to 4th best rb in the draft... he was a steal!!!

Payton has the #1 offense in the league, and you can tell he wants to stay up there, in the top 5. You don't need a great TE, with the rest of those skill players. If this is who they wanted then I am happy they got them. I did think they would get the DT, Branch, but they didn't want him at that spot. So lets just hope they pan out like last year.

i think we went a little overboard on the gem finding thing too....i think we got good players...i just think we reached on most of them. we could have gotted better players and picked some of these guys later or gotten them out of free agency.
