If he really wants to go to a contender like he says, he'd take it.

Why?

Because the dumb @ss Panthers paid his $3 million dollar roster bonus last month. Brilliant.

I think he would actually be a great signing. Obviously at a reduced rate. But he might be able to still produce. Plus he would be a good mentor to Colston as a big possession receiver. We lost our veteran leadership with the receivers when Horn left. And I'm not sure how much good Patten could do. If Johnson could accept that role, that is.

Mentor who? Colston is already a better WR than Keyshawn ever was.
Colston was outplaying the league before he got hurt.
Keyshawn couldn't outplay Wayne Chrebet, for crying out loud.

As for the leadership aspect, no need for any more sheriffs than Brees and Deuce.

${big_mouth} != ${leadership}

He has toned his attitude down a couple hundred percent, and was a postive influence on Carter and Colbert. I think he has been humbled by the Tampa experience and his role as Smith's second.

I'd take him over Patten anyday.

I never had a problem with his attitude and I would like it if the get him, assuming they think they can use him.

Bonus

He did not get a roster bonus. He wasn't due one, however he was due something like 2 million as part of his 5 million signing bonus from when he signed last year. So that is paid in-full but they don't owe him any futher money.

I am not saying you are wrong. I got the info from AP. :

05/01/2007 12:31 PM - Veteran wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson was released by the Panthers on Tuesday.

Veteran wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson was released by the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
"They said they wanted to get younger," Johnson told the newspaper. "That's fine with me. I'd like to go somewhere and help someone win another Super Bowl."

The move came a month after the Panthers paid Johnson a $3 million roster bonus, and three days after they selected another former Southern California receiver in the second round of the draft.
