rather than say we're going out to get the defensive tackle we

a chance to make the team. In his case, that was the reason for the
selection (of Pittman). We're excited to have him."

I like what Payton did last year, but I actually have a disagreement with this philosophy. If there's a hole that needs fixing, why wouldn't you want to fix it? I would understand if there was nobody good at positions like DT or LB that we needed left when we were picking, but there were. I would think that if there's a good player available who fits a need, you HAVE to take him. Can anybody explain to me, rationally of course, why Payton seems so against this?
