Payton Happy for Detroit
I saw an article about Payton on Joe Horn that had this little nugget about Calvin Johnson...
Payton also smiled broadly when asked if he was relieved when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one of his team's NFC South rivals, didn't get a chance to snare wide receiver Calvin Johnson in the first round of the draft last week. "Yes," Payton said, as reporters laughed. Because the Bucs didn't get a shot at Johnson, a 6-foot-5, 239-pounder who ran the 40 in 4.35 seconds, Payton and the Saints avoided two matchups a year with the former Georgia Tech star. When asked if Johnson was No. 1 on the Saints' board, a still-smiling Payton again said, "Yes." http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs...TES02/70509005 Normally, Payton doesn't elaborate on where we had players that we didn't draft on their board, but apparently he doesn't seem to mind letting us know about Johnson. |

Also, just to add to the Payton semi-worship we do around here...
If you read the Joe Horn part of the article and what Payton had to say about him, you've got to notice one more difference between him and Haslet. Haslet would have immediately started bad mouthing Joe as a cancer or something giving all the more motivation when he plays NO. Payton is avoiding that game altogether. |
