Saints OT Riley gets jail time for domestic violence case
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansas...ts/6230371.htm
By TONY RIZZO The Kansas City Star Former Chiefs player Victor Riley was sentenced Thursday to serve two weeks in jail in a domestic violence case. Riley, 28, now a lineman with the New Orleans Saints, pleaded guilty in May to a felony charge of aggravated assault for the 2001 incident in Overland Park. He was charged in Johnson County District Court after ramming his vehicle into another vehicle occupied by his wife and infant daughter. They were not injured. Riley underwent counseling as part of a diversion agreement with prosecutors, but his diversion was revoked after his arrest last November for driving while intoxicated. At Thursday's sentencing, defense attorney Kevin Regan asked the judge to follow plea negotiations and grant probation to Riley. As part of the deal, Riley was to serve the 14-day jail sentence. District Judge John Bennett followed the negotiations and gave Riley credit for one day he already had served in jail. Riley told the judge that he made a mistake and had been working hard on problems that led to the incident. He said he was ready to serve his jail sentence. |
