Rumor: McNabb for Briggs
Source: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/p...?urn=nfl,33381
Super shuffle? McNabb, Briggs swap makes sense Was the recent drafting of quarterback Kevin Kolb a sign that the Philadelphia Eagles might trade Donovan McNabb before the 2007 season? That's one theory, anyway. As for a possible destination, the Chicago Bears are ready to win the Super Bowl. They might have won it last year except for a glaring weakness at quarterback. The key to this scenario is Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who has said publicly that he will never play for Chicago again and who refused to report to minicamp on Friday. Briggs is, arguably, the best weakside linebacker in the game and is only 26. He could help Philly rebuild its defense while Kolb gets ready to take control of the offense. Source: Philadelphia Inquirer Wow...that would be a crazy trade. Makes a lot of sense. Philly has a rebuilding year and comes back strong, Chicago makes a serious SB run (too bad they'll have to go thru NO). |

That is stupid. The media trying to find something to write about. Kolb is in no way ready to play in the NFL this year or next. You can not call Houstons system a pro style offense by any stretch of the imagination. This kid is learning from scratch. Physically he has the tools but mentally he is a project.
Now if they picked Quinn I maybe able to accept this story...rumor Sounds to much like the duce is gone next year thing all over again. |

McNabb when healthy is a gamebreaker... a MVP candidate. The one thing Chicago needs is a quarterback and I cannot see this ever happening. The Eagles have depth at linebacker and really don't need Briggs anyways. And with them letting Garcia go, it would be a dumb move to start a rookie or whoever they have left over there... Holcomb? Feely? I don't think so. They have a solid team who is playoff ready... not a time to rebuild.
Pure speculation and it doesn't make sense. |

To play devil's advocate:
What if they made the trade as discussed and Philly made a move for Trent Green (a guy with 1-2 quality seasons left in the tank that could teach Kolb). We all know the KC is willing to let him go for cents on the dollar. The McNabb/Philly relationship is souring. It's been brewing for a while: all those almost-there years, the ever more frequent injuries, the Garcia playoff run and now McNabb’s not-so-private unrest over the drafting of Kolb. I've always liked McNabb (way more than Rush Limbaugh did), but he's 30 now and those legs won't hold up forever. His body's already starting to give out on him. I've said it before: Philly should let him go while he's still got some trade value. The Briggs/Chicago situation is well documented. He could come into Philly and learn a lot from Jeremiah Trotter (who's no spring chicken) and make that D the best in the NFC??? Throw in Greene and you've got a serious playoff team. Obviously, McNabb is a huge upgrade over "Train" Rex Grossman and if he stays healthy they're the odds-on favorite to win the NFC and have a way better shot at winning the SB. I'm not saying they will do it, just that they should. |

No way on this one- Hagan is right that it is the media making news instead of reporting it
Chicago showed in the SB that they need more than a QB. Their skill players on O are slightly above average at best. |

Now if that Green to Philly happens, then maybe... as long as they get a suitable replacement. But with what they currently have, noppers.

I dont buy into the rumor either, but i think what the point they were trying to make doesnt involve Kolb starting this year. I think they would go with Feeley or Holcomb while Kolb learns. Holcomb has had success in the NFL and Feeley is like 5-1 as a starter with the Eagles.
The fact that their offense was so effective last year without McNabb makes it possible...but not likely. |
