more English lessons...
that was humorous I admit. sadly what makes it so humorous is we hear so much of it, especially in New Orleans and other places in Louisiana.
one of my faves is when people say "aloose" like when they got the bolt to come off the nut. another is calling a plastic or rubber device used to carry water, etc long distances which we usually call a "hose" as opposed to a metal object used underground for the same purpose which we usually call a "pipe" and instead they use BOTH words TOGETHER to form a "hose pipe" I live out in Lake Charles now though from NOLA, and we have a lil college here that is spelled McNeese, NOT MacNeese. But that being even said, even though official school television ads say "MicNeese" (phonetically there) I'm amazed how many people "Mac" it, like "mac and cheese" or say MacDonalds (as opposed to "Mic"). That includes presumably graduates of that same school! Well, that's life out here in SE Texas ( I joke b/c thats what it practically feels like, especially with the proliferation of Texas sports news, esp the Astros, and so sparse coverage of NOLA sports, Saints and especially VooDoo or Hornets. Lastly, I still get a kick out of how many national news/sportscasters will say New OrlEEnz (Saints, etc). Geez! |

Where I live we don't call it soda, we call it pop. In northern VA people don't know what we are talking about.
