Wide Receivers:Camps Deepest Position.....
Deep Receivers: The Saints are absolutely stocked at wide receiver. Marques Colston leads the depth chart, but behind him a flock of versatile players are looking for playing time, including former second round pick Devery Henderson, who was singled out by Sean Payton today as having made a good impression so far. Terrance Copper, a starter from last season and David Patten, a starter from past Super Bowls, are also fighting. Jamal Jones and Lance Moore have made marked improvement. Jones played in place of Joe Horn last year at times, and Lance Moore is going try and do what he almost did last August - win the kick return job from the depth chart's veteran, Michael Lewis. Then, the Saints drafted Robert Meachem in the first round. That's eight players at one position deserving to be active on Sundays, none of which can be overlooked. Plus, rookie Rhema McKnight and journeyman Dante Ridgeway will run routes in practice.
Teams usually keep five, maybe six receivers on their final 53-man roster. Besides the Defensive Backs, Wide Receiver looks like it's going to be the hardest position to make the final cuts. I think a few of the players that don't make the roster will defenantly make the practice squad. |

I agree that we have a lot of players at WR, but a lot of question marks as well.
Will Patten return to SB form? Will Henderson live up to his potential? How soon will it be before Meachem contributes? Will Colston live up to the hype? Would Copper really be fighting for a starting job anywhere else? Of Jones, McKnight and Moore, only one is going to make it, and even then probably practice squad. Lewis is an extreme longshot to make this team. |
