I disagree with this. The off-field issues should not be dealt with on-field. The NFL and this hate filled commisioner is getting on my nerves. I could careless about what a player does off the field. If you are perfect then you are different than most people. I wish there was a way to let these players know that I do not like this.

I read a take on all of this on Sportsline.com that was interesting. The writer made the argument that the players are not employees, per se. They are entertainers.

Just like I don't watch Seinfeld, Mission Impossible or anything with Mel Gibson because Kramer/Cruise/Gibson are racists/weirdos/anti-Semites, we all have the option of not watching the Bengals, Bears, Falcons or the NFL as a whole.

None of us will do that, of course. Vick, Pacman, Tank and 1/2 the Bengals roster are officially the Bad Guys now. We'll all work ourselves into a seething rage for the two games he plays against the Saints and the ratings for all the Falcons' games will be better for it.

I agree with it and I think most of the NFL players agree with paying the price for tarnishing the leagues image. I believe that this kind of things SHOULD be punishable. They are making a bad name for the rest of the NFL players.

I agree with it, and say keep the suspensions coming. These millionaires ARE role models, whether they like it or not. It is part of their job description, like it or not.

How would any of our bosses react if we got arrested over the weekend, or were going to see dog-fighting? Would we be fired? Probably not. But raises, promotions and other perks would slowly go away. It's about character.

When your kid is playing in the yard and yells, "I want to be like Vick", it should be because of the great pass he just threw, not because he is antagonizing the neighbor's dog.

(okay, the Vick passing part might not have been the best analogy)

Also, if you're getting paid millions of $$$ to play a game for the biggest sporting corporation there is, you are different than most people.

The NFL has a business obligation to not enable criminals and immoral players to behave like gangsters and the like by handing them large sums of money and then turning their backs on their behavior.

The NFL also has a social obligation not enable them to act criminally as these guys are role models (good or bad) whether they like it or not.

Chris Henry is the one I see getting cheated here. After all, he has made mistakes, and sure they're illegal, but they're the kind of mistakes that happen to people making poor judgments (DUI) not the actions of someone who is trying to establish himself as some sort of kingpin.

Jones and Johnson on the other hand are perfect examples of the NFL's nightmare. These two players have taken the NFL's money and tried to establish themselves as Al Capone's and Tony Montana's. You just don't have the things going on around you like these two have without there being serious and intentional issues with illegal behavior. Both are gangsters in their own ways and both should be booted for a year or more. It sickens me that people can take such great opportunites, which so many others strive for, but never achieve, and use them for such villainous, immoral, unethical and criminal actions.

He was lucky the court system was loaded with bears fans. Other wise he should have been locked up the minute he got caught. It is only fair he gets hurt in the wallet now. He may think before breaking probation again. His offense was serious and not a case of guilt by association. So this of field issue does apply.
