Not a whole lot in here, but an interesting part at the end. It says Patten knows with the talent the Saints have that he might not start.

Was that ever even a possibility?

I hope he makes the team because of his experience and leadership, but start? Hmmm

Well you should always go into it with hopes of stating but "he realizes he may not"... nothing wrong with that.

I would love Patten even as a backup. Last year Colston was injured for 3 or 4 games. Injuries happen, and you need veterans who can plug right in and make a difference immediately.

In the Saints new offense under Coach Payton, it's not important where you start, it's where you finish. Starting in this offense really doesnt matter because when your in and your open that lil fella by the name of Drew Brees will definitely find you.

Exactly. I don't care if your name is Peter Pumpkinhead and you're 49 years old. Just get open and catch.

interesting. he knows he isnt gonna start with all this youth and recieciving talent in this corp. he knows he came in to fill in with experience, and knowledge of the game, not be an all-star. there is too many,

colston
dev
meach
copper
mcknight
jones
and him...

then ya have youngsters like moore bringing it. so hes smart about the situation

I'm happy with the Saints receivers right now. A bit trepidous but happy none the less.

The trepidation comes from the history of injuries and dropsies.

Injuries: Colston, Meachem, Patten

Dropsies: Henderson, Copper, Patten, and even Colston (remembering the Bears game).

This thread is about Patten so my comment about him is that he is pretty much the same player as Henderson only about 10 years older. They both have the quicks but drop easy would-be receptions while making the spectacular receptions.

I would not go that far Iceshack.
Patten does not have the dropies as a Henderson does. He does have them but not near to the extent as you may lead others to believe. If this guy can stay healthy, he is as solid of a #3/#4 you will find in the NFL. That is many due to age. Henderson would not see the the #2 position in Pattens prime.
I love this addition. I have seen him play in NY and NE for many years. He is a PRO. Clutch recieptions on game winning drives, are what made him a fan favorite here in NE. If he can stay healthy he will help in winning at the least 2 additional games next year. He could make Joe's departure forgetable for the fans.
