Ashamed to call myself a Saints fan.......
....that I didn't know this.
The team's colors, black and gold, symbolized both Mecom's and New Orleans' strong ties to the oil ("black gold") industry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_Saints It is in the early history part. Was looking for "New" news and came across this. |
That's a cool piece of Trivia.

yep those were the good old days. one shell had something to do with shell. the list of oil companies that operated out of La. back then was long.
So you are right about being ashamed and the oil connection. They have all been chased out of town by the stupid local elected officals. hang your head real low on this one. This has been the problem for years. |
Screw it!! These are the best colors in the NFL hands down. Lets not even think about changing them. Do you want the saints to to have colors representing amnesty and greenpeace?!?
|
The Saints should always be dressed in black and gold, black helmets wouldn't bother me just as long as there's gold somewhere else on their uniforms..

I think Sapper meant he was ashamed he didn't know the origin of his favorite team's colors, and not of what they mean.
Sapper, if it makes you feel better, I didn't know it either :) |
