Do you think Coach Payton really believes this?
I'm not so sure I believe that and look back to the Dallas game as evidence. The offense kept the pedal to the metal up to the final two minutes of the game. Do you really think on the opening Thursday night that if the Saints have an opportunity to hang a 40 spot on the Colts that Payton would pull up? SFIAH (who needs a new signature) |

I think he ment just as long as you win he could careless about the points. That does sound stupid. Since every play is designed to go all the way if the players do their job and coaches call the right play for that down. I see what you mean.
The Dallas and Phili games were the best. Long drives that eat up the clock to seal the deal. Stuff the victory down their throats. |

The other way to see it is that the Colts can hang 40 on you very quickly -(see Colts-Bucs game ), so hanging 40 points on the Colts doesn't mean you won the game.
"Enough points to win the game" doesn't necessarily mean you win the game by 1 or 2 points. It means that you score enough points to assure a win; it means that you keep scoring until the clock says 0:00 in the 4th. |

He's not the type of coach to run up the score on you... as evident in the Dallas game when he took a knee inside the redzone. But, if I was coaching and we were playing the Colts, scoring 40 points would be a priority considering the Colts are capable of putting up 3 touchdowns in any quarter.
